Jeff's Story

West Charlotte High School. I drove by there a few weeks back and even though it has changed dramatically, there's still something about that place...enough so that the first thing I did when I got home was to start Googling some old friends--- and I ended up here on the classmates site. I clicked through about a hundred names...its funny...I can't remember what I had for lunch today...but each one of those names (many that I hadn't thought of in almost 30 years) triggered memories more vivid than I can adequately describe. I remembered Old English 800. I could smell Kelly's "Gee your hair smells terrific" shampoo. Scary as it is, I remembered the layout of the Davant's old lake house at Lake Wylie. I put on a "Who" CD and remembered those cranking box speakers in the Norman's yellow Pinto ("Won't Get Fooled Again" never sounded so good). I heard Keith's laugh and remember how psyched Rob was when he was recording a cassette and the last bit of tape rolled by about 3 seconds after the record ended..."perfect timing". I remembered exactly where I was standing when the announcement came over the intercom about Joel's leg. There were a lot of people that I wished I'd told how much I admired and appreciated them. Was glad to see that the best kisser on earth (except for my wife) was on the list. So, not to bore you all, but here is my "what have you been doing for the last 30 years" snapshot. I never left Charlotte. Had plenty of opportunities to move, but the roots were too deep. After college, traveled around a bit until I decided on a "real job". I married my dream girl in September 1988 and 20 years later, we live up at Lake Norman and have 2 kids. Camille is 16 and our son Jody is 8 (some of you might remember my son's namesake- Jody Pangle-- he went to WC as a sophomore and then moved to Auburn, Alabama. He's been my best friend since I was 4, and to this day still asked about all the crowd from WC--- especially the guys on the soccer team). Speaking of soccer, ...Expand for more
still play some, but the competitive instincts stay safely tucked away--- just enjoy running around and trying not to pull too many muscles. I think Clint Eastwood said it-- "a man's got to know his limitations". I'm still a water ski bum, I gave up a horrible Diet Coke habit about a month ago (I got up to 8 a day) and since my company is based in Tel Aviv, Israel, I get to work at home most of the time-- so I'm still pretty much a shorts and t-shirt person. (Carolyn and the kids call it my "uniform") For those of you that remember my mom, we got her a condo up here about 5 years ago, so she lives less than 10 minutes away and at 86 years old, is sharp as a tack and STILL remembers all of you. Dad passed away about 5 years ago-- had a great life and it was just his time to go--- so we all miss John-boy and his crazy sense of humor--- if you ever question whether you had an impact on someone-- there were a few people from WC that he asked about well into his 80's. Betsy, if you ever read this, please know that you had a permanent place in his heart. What else-- well, I have less hair, more belly, and thanks to Lasik, 20/20 vision. The only people who call me "Jeff" now are my mom and my wife. Somehow over the years, it evolved into "JT" and I got tired of fighting it-- so JT it is. Been trying to find that yellow Porsche I had---almost had it tracked down 4 or 5 years ago but the guy who had it had wouldn't return my calls. Bummer. I want that car back. We go to Lake Forest Church up in Huntersville and my daughter and I have done a couple of mission trips recently. And believe it or not, I sing in the church band (the singing thing was one of those secrets I was too embarrassed to let fly back in high school). So thats enough about my life--- so many of you are part of who I am. Either because you had the grace back then too overlook my stupidity and selfish ways or you had the courage to point it out--- either way, I'm thankful. I hope to read your stories soon!!!!
