Sirlester's Story

School When I look at my high school years, I can only smile. I had so much fun in school. I did many things that most people could only imagine. I think the organization that made me to whom I am today is the cheerleading team. If I could find Tracy Winters, I would thank her for daring me to tryout in the Spring of 1985. The squad taught me how to discipline myself to a task. Being on the team showed how much guts I had to do something that most people did not have the balls to do. I feel being on the team helped me when I was pledging to endure hardships and some difficult times. I talk to many people from Lindblom like Yolanda Young and Julie Harden from the Class of 1988, but I keep in touch with Roderick Riley and Marveen Winslow from our class. They were the ones to get me to the class reunion of 1997 because they knew I did not want to attend. Being a teacher, I hold Lindblom to the highest level, and I tell other students how much fun it was for me. I want to thank my three cousins who went to Lindblom in 1982 an 1983 for letting me continue a legacy in our family...Expand for more
. College I started at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, IL. I enjoyed my tenure at the school. I do not have any ties to the school outside of the idea that I pledged Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Incorporated. I left the school in the idea of trying to help my mother because my grandmother passed away in the spring of 1990. I was not doing that well in school either, so I came home in January 1991. After a few years of working in a school, I decided to go back to school to get a degree. I chose DePaul University. I was the real student at the school. If you can believe it, it was during my second year at DePaul that I started to have fun. I met many people, went to parties, just had fun. Trying to be a scholar was somewhat boring, but I did graduate with honors in November 2001. I have a degree in education. Now, I am a fulltime graduate student at DePaul studying Curriculum Studies. At the rate I am going, I should have my Master's in 2006. Afterwards, I will be attending a research university to receive a Ph.D in Education. Continue to pray with me...
