Jeffery's Story
School
I went to two different High Schools. Vidor was where I started and had many very good friends. I enjoyed the years there and wish that I could have finished there sometimes. Who knows how my life would have turned out. Though I didn't finish there, looking back, coming to Lamar High in Houston began a process to prepare me for the road ahead in which my career track would begin. I met many wonderful people and became more centered in the Houston area and the church I attend and the job that I now hold. I still think about many of the people that I have lost touch with over the years and look forward to this, my 25th year out from High School, on reconnecting with some of them to see how they are getting on.
Workplace
I work at a fire station near my home and have now for 25 years. I received my long awaited and final promotion that I have sought to the rank of Sr Captain. I look forward to the challenges that it will bring ...Expand for more
and developing other aspects of my career now that I will have a bit more time to study and become better attuned to this aspect of my prefession... managing and leading a team to accomplish the goal of fire scene management.
I enjoy working with and for people for these many years, in spite of some political aspects of working in city government. Working with a group of committed people at serving the public is by far a most wonderful aspect of a job. Though my job is often strenuous with an aspect of danger attached, I still look forward to going to work when my shift is on duty.
Now as I enter into the final few years of my career I will be looking for my next area of interest that will maintain a flexible schedule while we raise our three children. This part of the journey is always uncertain, but I feel as though I will receive direction as I move along toward that day that I am no longer out there fighting fires for a living.
