Jeffrey's Story
Since June of 1973, I have done a lot. I spent 2 summers with the US Forest Service fighting fires. In between those summers I worked for Lucky food store.
I joined the US Navy in Septemebr of 1974, for 4 years. I was an Airdale stationed at NAS Mira Mar in San Diego. I was in 2 nearly plane crashes within 6 days apart.
In 1978, I got out and went to school at West Valley College in Saratoga CA. Majored in Business.
In 1980, I transfered to San Diego State University, but left in 1983, after changing majors a couple of times. Heck, I was living in Mission Beach.
I moved to San Jose, CA and have been here ever since. At first I had some odd jobs like janitorial and retail. In 1984, I joined a hi tech company called Televideo Systems. This was the first company in a number of Silicon Valley companies at worked at for the next 19 years.
In 1985, I joined a small company that had about 250 employees. It had just went IPO a few months before. I stayed with this company for 12 years leaving in 1997 when they employeed 13,500 world wide. The name of the company was 3Com.
The company was a lot of fun to work for. It was a party company. I made lots of stock options with my performance. I got to know and work with Dr. Robert Metcalf, the inventor of ethernet.
It was a great learning ex-perience. I went from receiving, to stockroom, to shipping and finally in materials management.
I became a materials buyer/planner and a product planner. I did some contract administration.
In 1997, I went to KLA-Tencor. They are the second largest Simiconductor equipment manufacture. I was in their customer support division making sure product was getting repaired and customers were getting product returned on time.
In 1999, I went to Nortel Networks. I was a production and new products Sr. Buyer/Planner. Nortel was a lot of fun, but didn't last long. They dec...Expand for more
ided to tranfer manufacturing off shore, like most Silicon Valley companies.
In 2000, I worked for Asyst Technologies at their Robotics Division. I was a production Sr. Buyer/Planner. Three months later i left to go on to a start up company.
That company was called Corona Networks. It was an Indian company, since it was founded, ran and most engineers were Indian. It had about 60 employees. Start ups are a lot of work, but a lot of perks. I ran the purchasing department. Actually, I was purchasing. It only lasted for 7 months.
The VP that hired me at Corona had left to go on to other things. I get a call from him to join him at another start up. Of course it was for more money.
The start of 2001, I was at Optimight Communications. This was a long haul fiber optic communication company with new technology. It started off going great, but after 9/11, the economy went down hill. Optimight ran out of money and shut it doors in January 2002.
I was out of work for 9 months. I needed a job. 9/11 provided it. In Septemebr 2002, I joined the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). Still there today.
I work at San Jose International Airport. Working for the government has it's challenges. They way the government operates is really messed up. Right now it's job security. Last year i became a Behavioral Detection Officer. Check out the TV series Lie To Me.
That's my career. Now here is my family.
I am married to a Filipina that I met in the Philippines in 1994. Her name is Rosie. We were married the next year. We have a 7 year old son. His name is Ainsley. He is in the second grade and is tops in his class.
Life doesn't turn out the way you expect. It hasn't for me. We just keep moving on. Any day above ground is a good day.
I like to travel. I have a timeshare on Maui. I like to spend time with my son.
