Jeffrey's Story

Life Hello to anyone who happens by this tiny slice of my life. Ping me at jeffreyjarnot-at-comcast.net (replace the spelled out stuff w/ the usual) What have I done? Where have I been? The answer is probably a common story for many 43yr old guy's from the 80's. A big part of my Junior year was attending the Vo-Tec center next door. I had the consumer electronics classes for 2 or 3 hours a day. Remember Mr. Troy? In his world I found some of the confidence I needed to start driving me forward in electronics. He was a lot of fun and he made the math and science fun too! I owe him and the Wayne Westland Education system an overdue thank you for that program! After H.S I went off to the RETS electronic school over in Livonia. It was a 2yr trades course in fairly hard-core electronics I had always loved electronics & computers (and star trek <g>), so it made sense for me. In fact, at 16 I bought one of the first Timex-Sinclair computers from Hudson's. It ran me $99 bucks! I stil have it and the original box. I made cash during High School by working at the QuoVadis theater. I actually worked at the 'Quo' (as we called it) through all of H.S and a few years of tech-school. If you remember, the Theater was across from the Westeland Mall. The Algiers drive-in was next store, and was owned by the same people. (do I ever miss the drive-in's & fun we had) We also owned the La'Preasian over on the corner of Ford&Middlebelt. That one actually had a VIP room that we could reserve for movies with that someone of the month. And for any Wanye M. folks... Yes, we owned the State Wayne on Michigan Ave (in Wayne) too. It was a good place to be a bit more ...well... roudy. The Ushers had more than a few black eyes over the years. (ouch!). What a treat that decade was for me. I was able to see most every movie all through H.S. and some early college. As Ed Money said in his song , "I wanna go back and do it all over again". To this day I am still a total movie buff. Come retirement you'll find me reunited with my flash-light at a theater around here somewhere. Maybe I'll sneak some of ya'all in the back like we did at the Quo <grin>. From the mid 80's to early 90's I job hopped my way up the ladder. Electronics & Computers were hot and I was in my prime. That was the start of who I have become professionally. At the old-age of about 23, I took a job at a the Ford Aerospace firm in Dearborn. Yep... Ford country! For about the next 8 years I worked w/ some of the coolest tech on the planet. Then the bottom fell out of the space and military defens...Expand for more
e industry. (Reagan & StarWars era) The good news is that computers were all the rage! The better news for me was I had spent the last few years running some fairly large computing & repair departments. I soon took my 2nd real non-movie type job with the company I am with to this very day. A publishing company that I am sure many of you would know. I run the global business systems ERP computing platforms. They sell it, and I make sure it books & ships. (I like to say) I have been there for 15 years. In the midst of all this career stuff I was able to get several additional degrees, and even an advanced degree. I can say that our Information-age has kept me hopping with continued education and training. And believe me, I was the LAST person in H.S to think I would spend a dozen more years in school. Some of you are laughing at me now, I just know it! ;-) Life is funny that way as most of you know by now. Ohh the twists & turns. If I could just have a few hours back from the 80's to re-do some things. Anywho; all I can say is my love of science and technology has always been there. I truly hope you get to do what you love to do after all these years. If not, then I hope you get the chance soon! So, am I out of room yet on this web form? Jeez, another 15K characters to go... 'just not gonna happen' On the home front, I have been married 16years. We have 4 kids who are just too much fun. I even have twin daughters. Raising twins is a rare blessing for those who may wonder. They even had this twin talk thing as toddlers. That was different... So where did I end up? Not far, actually! I still live around the area. I did not get too far from the hometown in my 43 years. What do I do for fun? R&R? Personally, I like to run a lot. Always did! I ran in Junior High (Nankin Mills) and picked it back up again in my 30's. Cadio junkie!!! I'll take 4 to 10mile runs when I can. I hit the treamills in winter. A runners high is NOT a myth. You just need to run till you find it or croak. (I suppose). Everyone needs an outlet these days, right! If you've seen my pic here, then you see my Meade LX200 telescope, in a real dome, in my backyard. I do some CCD imaging of deep space items here & there when I can. I imaged Pluto this year, and found out how small it really is! And even harder to find than you would think! As all of the parents know.. The rest of the time is kids, cleaning, soccer, cooking, laundry, yelling (haha). OK.. time to go... To close-out this never ending textbox, take care, have fun, be healthy, and Go Rockets! JJ
