Jeffrey's Story
I am retired. I spent 23+ years as a metallurgical engineer in the design and construction of commercial (Cessna engines, 747, 757, 767, G5, et al airframes) and military (A-7, F-111, F-16, B-1,,B-2 et al) and even had questions involving the F-4U and Space Shuttle. I also spent almost 12 years with the Department of Homeland Security. (Sorry, can't talk about it.)
Yes, that is a Penn State cap. I did my graduate work there.
I have outlived my immediate family and live by myself (in Texas - Yipee kai yay - y'all). I spend my time cooking/baking (probably explains why I can not lose any weight), reading, listening to music, watching DVDs and building model ships. I have two bad knees and have had several vertebrae fused or I'd exercise more.
(Added 12/18/2023) Well, I finally had my left knee replaced. Now I have a matched set. I had the right knee replaced in 2021. Soon there will be more replacement parts than than the original! I would have had the left knee surgery last year, except I needed to have a hernia repair. It was my second hernia repair. Let's see..... I have had two hernia operations, two knee replacements, two rotator cuff repairs, two sets of vertebra fused and now I need cateract surgery on each eye.
The fancy picture is me at my doctor's (he is on the left) Christmas party. I think I get invited every year because I make chocolate mousse. It is usually a dress-up affair and is the only time I get to wear my gold v...Expand for more
est. AND I do tie my own bowtie. As an engineer, I just found it to be another challenge to accomplish.
Yes, Texas has winter. This is my home.
I have decided to add a few images of my baking and ship models.
Lemon merengue pies.
Amish no knead bread.
Home made fruitcake. Trust me, even people who do not like fruitcake like mine.
Snickerdoodles!
Rum cake swirl.
NY style cheeeeese cake. A collaboration between me and my late father. Cherry or strawberry anyone. The missing portion was a great breakfast. And, blueberry bran muffins
are great HOT and slathered with butter.
One of my neighbors is an engineer with Bell Helicopter. I built the model Tilt-Rotor for him.
Ships named Enterprise:
1930 America's Cup winner.
Atomic carrier.
Space shuttle.
Starship.
I built two Venetian wedding gondolas and gave one to each of a pair of sisters who worked in my doctor's office.
The Red Dragon is a Chinese war junk. It is a wood model and is almost constructed like a full sized version from a (faux) keel, bulkheads and layered wood strips up the sides. I gave it to a neighbor married to a lady of Asian descent. Their home has a number of Asian motifs.
The Goethe is a paddle wheeler still in use for Germen river cruises. I gave it to another neighbor who took a fancy to it. Alas, he has since passed.
I found an original medal struck by the French government to commemorate the 1954 maiden voyage of the SS France to include in the display.
