Jeffrey's Story
Well, I did not exactly graduate with you Auburn guys, but ....
After my mom's coma, we relocated to Ithaca, NY where I finished high school. I just recently (Aug 2009) looked through a *lot* of old letters and photos. I abandoned a lot of good friends when we moved.
I graduated from Cornell in 1997, got a Ph.D in Biochemistry in 2003, and did post doctoral research in Cincinnati (CELL publication FTW!). My focus is protein X-ray crystallography - a technique to visualize protein and enzyme structures at the atomic level.
Besides my science career, I also do computer programming and consulting on Macintosh systems. While it started out as a hobby, this has turned out to be more lucrative than academia, although I am still more passionate about science. I also support the Mac client of an MMORPG. No big surprise, huh?
I fundraise for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society through their Team in Training program. With TnT I have done the Walt...Expand for more
Disney World Triathlon (2006) and Marathon (2009). In 2010 I completed a century bicycle ride with Team in Training and earned my "triple crown". I have done a 1/2 Ironman, and I am a cycling coach. I have also been a rock climbing instructor (while at Cornell) and managed to get a brown belt in Karate before moving for graduate school. Surprised? Me, an athlete? And I hardly ever play tennis anymore.
I am married with two children- a girl and a boy. I met my wife during graduate school, and she is now a physician at the Children's Hospital. I really enjoy being a dad.
In 2010 I moved to Indiana to ... let my wife have her dream career. As for me, well, maybe the economy will improve so I can continue a career in biochemistry. Until then, I have programming gig as a backup.
