Jen's Story
My story could go on forever!
I graduated and went to Roger Williams University in RI. I got a Bachelor's degree: majoring in PR and journalism, and minoring in environmental biology.
I got a job at Advantage International (now Octagon) as an account assistant. I did a ton of PR work and worked a couple of golf events. I decided it wasn't for me and got a job at Redniss and Mead in Stamford. I was an assistant to the surveying teams there, and this was the time I got my first apartment. I also decided to go back to school to become a teacher.
I atteneded Manhattanville College, and got my Master of Arts in Teaching, specializing in K-6. I worked in Greenwich as an instructional aide for a couple of years while working on my degree. When I graduated, I was hired by Turn of River Middle School in Stamford as a 6th grade science teacher. That was in 2001, and I am still here!
Outside of school, I am still a volunteer firefighter. I...Expand for more
have been doing it for 15 years now! I am a member of Noroton Heights FD in Darien, and love my brothers there. I have done so much schooling in firefighting that I am now a fire instructor, and train guys (and girls!) to be firefighters.
Firefighting also allowed to meet my husband, Shawn Murphy (who graduated with me in 1993). We never met in high school, but were fortunate to meet before my senior year of college at a parade during the summer. We have been inseparable since, and got married in 2004. We also bought a small house in Darien, which we are working on renovating. It is a lot of work! ps - Shawn is now a career firefighter in Greenwich, which he is quite proud of because it was his dream!
I am horseback riding again as well, and teach riding to beginners the barn where I ride (Mead Farm). I also coach cross country and track, and love to work out as well.
Basically, life is a lot of hard work, but it is good! :)
