Jenet's Story

Life After college, I lived in Northern Virginia for a minute. Then I moved to Silver Spring, Maryland. I practiced accounting for six years, working for government contractors. Government Contracting is a really huge market on the east coast. Shortly after, I moved to D.C. I LOVED living in D.C. It's a great area for singles. Working in accounting was challenging but after a while it became pretty redundant. I had been working with this software package while I was a accountant that was very popular among contractors. So the software company recruited me to provide support for another one of their accounting software products. That job was the best job I'd ever had and it also introduced me to the Information Technology field. Meanwhile, I had a son, Jared. Cutest little boy you ever want to see. Then we moved back to Silver Spring;it's not too safe living in the big city with a small child. Then my mom became ill and I became tired of living away from my family and dealing with the snow, so I moved back home in July 2001, shortly before 9/11. Actually, I was going to schedule our flight out for around September 17. Good thing I didn't....Expand for more
Anyhoo, I've been home for the past 3.5 years and I LOVE it. It's like I'm seeing New Orleans in a whole new light. Currently, I'm a systems analyst for a local school board. They're always in the local paper for something or other(checkout nola.com). They may have made national news with all the drama that goes on there, I don't know, but I really don't like it. People actually ask me if I'm from New Orleans and you can kinda tell who's stayed here and who's left and come back. There IS a difference. BIG difference. Unfortunately, my mom died in 2003. I've been taking care of my dad and sister. I've also started my own business, which I'm REALLY excited about. I want to get to the point where I can run it full time. Marketing the biz itself is a full time job but it can be really fun, especially the networking parties. You get to meet a lot of interesting people. I'm thinking about getting a new car. I just bought a car in March, a Camry, which I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE. But I've seen those Infiniti G35s which are gorgeous. I think I'll hold off, though. Eventually, I want to get my BMW 7 series. It may take a few years but I'll get it. Bye!
