Jenna's Story
Life
I joined the Navy after graduation and was married before turning 19. I was in the military only 1 1/2 years before my son, Christopher, was born. My husband and I switched roles and he joined the Army while I took care of our son and went to school at night. I became a computer literate secretary and took many temp jobs as we moved around. We lived in Florida, Virginia, Maryland and Germany. When my son was old enough to start preschool, my husband got out of the Army and we returned home to Kirtland, Ohio to be close to family. My son attended school in Kirtland through all grades just like his father, grandmother and great grandmother and now he's in his second year of college at Lakeland and wants to be a mechanical engineer.
I divorced after 13 years of marriage and have been living happily with my boyfriend, Mark, for 8 years in Concord, Ohio. I've been a mail carrier for 13 years for the city of Painesville and my route is right up the street from my house. I even get to come home for lunch!
I still own a horse and LOVE to do all kinds of riding from trail riding, to team penning to jumpers to eventing. I have my horse at home along with my last two sale horses that have been sold and remain at my barn as boarders now. I'm a certified farrier and I also get paid to train horses whenever I have time to fit that in.
Life is good and peaceful now, but I look forward to the day that we ca...Expand for more
n finally both retire and move out west. I own almost 10 acres in beautiful, sunny, northern California (Redding) and dream of the day when we can be happy, playful retirees out west!
Workplace
I worked for St. Luke's Emergency Medical Center as a receptionist during a work/study program in my last year of high school.
My last Summer I was a camp counselor at Camp Wise in Burton teaching horseback riding lessons.
Then it was off to the Navy in Orlando, Florida to become an Airman.
My first duty station was Norfolk, Virginia where I worked in the coffee shop for a while, then became the secretary for 3 helicopter pilots in a cushy office located in the flight tower.
After my son was born, I became a civilian and went back to school at night to get more secretarial training.
I worked many temporary secretarial jobs as we moved around while my husband was in the Army.
I was the secretary to the vice president of Forest City Auto Parts for a few years after we moved back home to Ohio.
I took the postal exam on a whim and became a letter carrier at the Painesville Post Office in 1994 and have been carrying mail for 13 years now. My daily route is a 7 mile walking route and is located just down the street from my house so I get to come home for lunch!
I graduated from farrier school (blacksmith) a few years ago and do a little of that on the side as well as train and board horses at my house.
