Jennifer's Story
Since graduating from Belaire High I was married for two years to Gustavo Gonzalez. We lived in Florida (he was stationed there in the USAF) and after that I married Ross Balestreri also in the USAF. We both attended Troy State University Florida Region (an Alabama university with classes conducted at various Air Force bases). Once Ross completed his degree he received his commission and we were stationed in Los Angeles where he supported the Space Shuttle mission. We continue to live in the Los Angeles area (Torrance) and have 4 children that are 4 years apart. My oldest is a girl who just turned 22 and graduated college this year with a dual bachelors. Then I have 3 boys. The oldest one just graduated high school and plans to attend UC Irvine this fall to study engineering. My ...Expand for more
next son completed Middle school and my youngest will be entering 5th grade.
Once I was settled in California, I obtained a job at a company that sold voice mail systems. I did the programming of the systems and training of the end users. After 12 years and several "buy outs/mergers" later Lucent Technologies was spinning off a new company called Avaya and I asked to be the person laid off since I had just had my third child and planned to work only about 6 more months. They allowed me to leave and I was a stay home mom for a decade.
I currently run a daycare out of my home called Treasured Tots Daycare. That keeps me here for my boys and still brings in some income. My husband is still in the AF reserves (35 years). We have been married since October 1985. I feel very blessed.
