Jennifer's Story

Good Lord, am I in my 50s already? The 80s seem like a minute ago. I am still living in Arizona and loving it! It is my geographic mecca. I was a deep tech computer nerd until I retired. Now I am more focused on gaming and trying to teach my dogs to speak using Fluent Pet buttons. (It's not going well.. lol). I still have a house full of animals, and Im always working on some project or other. Currently I'm turning one of my kids' rooms into a swanky craft room. I'm happily married to a wonderful guy who really gets me. He has 2 kids and being a step-parent and adoptive Mom was a real journey. Love our kids to pieces, but Im also really loving being an empty-nester and the reduction in the chaos children bring. I have gone to many schools throughout my educational career. The last 4 are the ones that really stand out - Marana Jr/High School, Saguaro High, Morrison Christian Academy, and The American University. I've been fortunate to still be in touch (or have been in touch with fairly recenty) with most of my very small senior class from MCA (we have zoom calls throughout the year) - which is really lovely - being able to connect with old friends who are strewn throughout the world; and a few people from Marana and Saguaro - like Scott McCaslin - who had a very similar job; Jenny Bogushefsky (now Stracke) who lives about a mile from me now, to my delight; and Ken Wyvill - who is still the super friendly guy he has always been. I'm facebook friends with several others - like Rex McDowell and Shelly Carr and Shelly Altamirano. You can find me on facebook with 'Jennifer Petorella.' Probably not many people were aware of this, but when I abruptly left Saguaro High, it was to go to Taiwan. I was being stalked to and from ...Expand for more
school and my parents felt it was best for my safety to relocate. My stepfather had family in Taiwan, so I ended up going on a really big, life changing adventure. I lived in Khaoshiung and went to school at a missionary boarding school in Taichung. I studied both Spanish and Mandarin and got to see the world from a completely different vantage point. I worked during the summers in the Export zone at a big factory. I went roller skating in the park, crammed into taxis with my friends to go to the mall (asking the drivers to play our cassettes at top volume on the way). I spent my junior high and high school careers in band and soccer. Then added in Ultimate Frisbee and the Gaming Club in college. I miss being able to do those things. So many fond memories. I studied Literature and art at The American University (I graduated just 2 classes short of an art minor). But life really took off for me when I switched careers to technology. I really found my groove in mainframe programming and web application design, later moving on to systems integration and data governance - subspecializing in master data. I worked in top 4 consulting for a long time and got to have a lot of really rich opportunities to learn and grow in my field before moving to local job here in Arizona. I retired in 2017 and have been really just embracing my free time and all the crafty, creative, and learning opportunities that abound now. The 80's are still my favorite decade. Be happy! If you're feeling nostalgic, feel free to email me (chrystalheart at yahoo). BTW, I would love to hear whatever happened to Brian Horton who used to go to Saguaro. And Dana Turner. Last I heard she was headed to Phoenix. Haven't seen her around (grin). And Kelly Bennett!
