Jennifer's Story
Hello classmates, how are you? Those of you who remember me, I graduated in 76'. I have five children, (I lost the twins I was pregnant with during the school year), had the five after. My children are all grown and I have many beautiful grandchildren with a set of twin in there. Intermountain was a family thing, my brother Andy is a Tribal Councilman, Michael is in Durango, Co., finishing school, Monte, manages the tribes' IT copier program, and Monica and I are starting a teepee business. Monica sews the teepees; I make canvas root-digging bags and other things with the canvas scraps. Be looking for us, we will have a web site set up soon; we will have a discount for all our classmates.
The following is personal information-is not intended for anything other then to ask, no beg each of you to be tested please. Because even at worst case, you still have a chance.
I was diagnosed with cancer on January 2, 06, the plan was to remove the small lump-they also take the two lymph nodes closest to the breast to see if the cancer has traveled. If it did not travel, I could opt for radiation and be done with. However, one lymph node was positive for cancer, and they had missed a piece of the cancer. The next surgery they took the piece from my breast and removed way... to many lymph nodes, they did this for a count to see how much had spread. (In hindsight I would not have let them take even one more node, they took eighteen, of these- four had cancer, I wish I had the fourteen healthy ones to fight off colds and any other cancer that is filtered out in the lymph nodes. I was receiving the strongest doses of chemo to kill any other cancer in the body the surgery did not get, even invaded lymph nodes). I let my body rest for six wee...Expand for more
ks then started chemo, taking 1/2 day off on Friday and be back to work on Monday morning, every 21 days. Did it spread past the nodes, and if so where? A brain scan showed no cancer, a CT-Bone scan showed it had spread to my right pelvis bone (eight centimeters long), making my cancer Stage IV - there is no Stage V. They told me they where sorry but to just go home and try to live a quality live. NO WAY!! I had all ready had two surgeries four massive doses of chemo that took my long, long hair, and not fight. As a native, I believe in prayers and healers, then I had showed up that same day at chemo, the same night a "meeting" on the next Res, and I drink my healing tea, the healer showed up on the next res also. With all the prayers and this help, I have been healed. I did need to finish out the chemo and radiation. Not to say there is hardly time off work, I did have to take 7 weeks off for 33 radiation treatments in the middle of September. By January of 2007, after work I was back to teaching aerobics April 20, 2008 I ran in the local cancer awareness run, 5K.
What Im saying is, I was healthy, heck I'd been fighting Wildland fires for years when not doing that running a chain saw around peoples homes out in the woods; BUT I still got cancer. From where, who knows, probably some old asbestos filled dormitory I stayed in the 70's, fighting fires in real dumps sometime, bottled water plastic, who knows. My purpose, I just want you classmates to be tested. Don¿t wait until you just get to weak to fight off something, cancer, diabetes or anything else. PLEASE GET TESTED and DEAL WITH IT. We have all been through worse, RIGHT. I love you all and my prayers are with you always.
All my relations,
Jennifer F. Joseph
