Jennifer's Story

Life Time sure has flown, and changed, since I've left Oxnard. Who would have known that things would've turned out the way they have? Despite all of the changes, the twists & turns - everything that's happened in the past is definitive of the person I am today. After high school I dabbled here and there with college, worked as a chiropractor's assistant for a while, and then chased my dream in the LA scene. After almost three years in the industry I experienced my fair share of ups-and-downs. One of my favorite moments was exposure in People magazine. For the most part, when I look back on my time in LA I can only say that "I wish I knew then what I know now". I would have to say that the last eight years of my life have seen the most significant changes & adjustments. I steadily moved away from Oxnard in the mid-nineties: I lived in San Luis Obispo for a few years while going to school, then to the Silicon Valley in the midst of the dot-com boom (and bust). Afterward, I got a taste of San Francisco's city life where I worked as a makeup artist and met some amazing people! The oddest job I've had was working part-time as an assistant manager for a hip-hop club in the city. It was like partying every Friday and Saturday night while getting paid to do it! The hours were crazy, though, and I wasn't enough of a night owl to really enjoy it for very long. On the relationship scene...yes, I've met my best friend. My soulmate. The one with whom I am one hundred percent, head-over-heels in love. (yeah, I know, it's "roll-your-eye...Expand for more
s-sickening"!) We got married in 2002 and we now have a wonderful three-year old son, and an infant who was born in May of this year. I resigned as an administrative assistant in 2004 and became a full-time mommy - which has been my biggest job yet! Up until now instead of long commutes to the city & ridiculous deadlines and clients, my daily routine consists of playgroups & playgrounds, teething & sleeping issues, deciding which toy has the best developmental and entertainment value for the buck, and the ongoing search for THE best diaper bag! And that's just naming a few of the issues this week! Hehehe! My son is now in preschool where he is thriving, and I am back ay square one, counting the mini-milestones mt daughter reaches with each passing week. I also maintain an online journal, mamasmoon.com, which has chronicled the more interesting parts of my life since earlier this year. It's amazing what a few hours of journaling can do for a mom's psyche! It's funny to look back on the past seventeen years and remember how unsure I was about my life ahead of me. There was a point when I thought life ended at twenty-five, and wondered how I would even survive turning thirty! But now I understand that in my twenties I was just finding my way, finding myself; that I wasn't behind on fulfilling my 'life plan'. I was only experiencing life the way I was meant to. And so - seventeen years, lots of searching, and a minivan later; here I am, a full-time mom so in love, and very much looking forward to what my next thirty years brings on!
