Jennifer's Story

Life Life Bio- well the short version is that I have one husband for 18 years, and we have one daughter age 10. We really enjoy traveling together and helping people both here in Tucson, the USA and internationally. Workplace Work Bio- I graduated from Ball State University as an elementary teacher. I moved to Arizona and was a teacher for 14 years teaching mostly kindergarten and second grades. Then, I became a principal. But then, charter schools became a great opportunity here in Arizona, so I founded one school and opened a second site a year after that. For the past 5 years, I've been the superintendent of our two schools. Who would have ever guessed I'd do that??? I used to be sure I would never put up with the stress that school administrators endure, but here I am and I love every minute. We are the CEOs and Executive Directors of the schools, plus we own one of the school buildings. It is an international school, and we have a school board, the National School lunch program, we teach Spanish and Chinese to all kids grades K-10, have a computer lab and take international "field trips" every year. So far, I've taken kids ages 6 to 16 to Mexico, China, Spain, and Japan. I love what we are doing! Now as I'm getting older, I find a major role I play is in mentoring the parents on how to parent an...Expand for more
d how to create a healthy home environment. We see a lot of well meaning parents who are just not available to guide their own children. Growing up in Brookville was a huge blessing to all of us because for many many people, the concept of community and caring are very sterile. Brookville was a stable community that did have and still has a peaceful, calm and safe atmosphere. I will always be thankful to my mom, dad, and brothers for the great family life we had growing up. I also will forever remember and appreciate my many grade school and high school friends who were encouraging and fun to grow up with. I loved my high school days and I'll always remember everyone with my whole heart. At our schools, we keep the schools smaller (150 to 300 kids) and encourage whole families to attend the same facility, grades K-10, to facilitate wholeness in family and offer one school for parents to connect with all their children's education. At our schools, we try to re-create the positive experiences I had in Brookville growing up. Military I never served, but I want to say that I honor all those who serve(d)in the military. Both of my brothers, Jeff and Jerry Smith, served in the US Army. My father, the late Dale Smith, served in the US Air Force. I am proud of them and thankful for their service to our country.
