Jennifer's Story
Hi! I just repaid my dues, so I will try to catch up, if I can find everyone's notes.
In March 2011, Rich and I went to South America for 3 weeks---Peru, Chile and Argentina. Great
trip. I would say "rigorous" is a good word to describe it. We saw some beautiful areas, and
learned a lot about the Inca civilization, as well as visiting a lot of their ruins. It was colder than
I expected, for what would have been their Fall. Buenas Aires was the only place where we didn't
need a jacket, and could wear short sleeves! One area that we visited in southern Chile was only
200 miles from the Antarctic Circle. It was pretty chilly! The Japan earthquake and sunami happened

eru, and we never heard about it until landing in Chile. Then we learned that a
small sunami might be heading toward the Chilean coast. But we were far enough inland that
we were not worried. But getting any news on TV or newspaper in English was not so easy.
My four years of Spanish was a very long time ago! But we managed. I did try speaking Spanish
when I could, although I was definitely limited in what I could remember!
Our harsh winter here in Northern Virginia turned into Summer, in mid-May. We skipped Spring this year!
Our temperatures have been in the high 80's up into the mid to high 90's, these past couple of weeks.
