Jennifer's Story

It's been a long and eventfully 18 (YIKES!) years since high school. It seems so odd to think that it was that long ago. My name is Jennifer Stanley now. I married the love of my life five years ago. He is the best person I have ever met and being his wife is one of the things I am most proud of in my life. I am also very proud of our daughters Caitlin and Elizabeth. Caitlin was born in 2005. She is a beautiful and sweet tempered little girl, even in the midst of her terrible twos and threes, she was mild. She is tender hearted and sweet as they come. Elizabeth joined the world in March 2007. She is beautiful just like her sister, although far more independent. She is her mother's child through and through (Heaven help us all). She doesn't take much guff from people and isn't fond of strangers. I always joke that E won't start stuff, but she will darn sure finish it! Deep down she is a cuddle bug and a total daddy's girl! On the work front, I had to sacrifice a little of that when I married my husband and then again when I had the girls. His job (military) is not mobile and is no where near Atlanta (where my career was). I was very fortunate that my boss really loved my work, because he made it possible for me to telecommute and work part time out of my home office. It was wonderful, especially with the Monkey (Caitlin) and school. I managed work, motherhood, and academics fairly well... until we added a second child to the mix! Unfortunately, being the mother of a toddler and newborn, a gym rat, and a full time student, it just wasn't possible for me to keep working. Consequently, I took a break from work during my senior year. Then in July 2008 went back to work part time working with autistic and BED (behaviorally and emotionally disabled) kids. However, after much time, money, and energy was invested in my going back to work,...Expand for more
I figured out what my husband knew all a long... I wasn't ready to leave my girls just yet. So I quit working except for the group fitness (Spinning and Body Pump) classes I teach at a local gym and spend most of my time shuttling kids to ballet, gymnastics, and yoga, home schooling (only through Pre-K), and playing with my kids. Well, I am also a professional student (my husband gets SUCH a kick out of that term), but that is the next paragraph! On the education front, I went to school for finance and business right out of high school, but after a decade in the corporate world and with a husband half way around the globe changing communities and rebuilding a culture, my power points and numbers seemed pretty inconsequential. So, I went back to school and got a BA in History and a BS in Psychology. Now, I am in a graduate program for Psychology and Criminal Justice. If I can talk the better half into moving to an area with a decent doctoral program, I will complete my graduate work with a PhD in Forensic Psychology, but for the time being I will be happy with my LPA license and maybe a JD once the girls are in school full time. In addition to my academic work, I am also studying for my certification as a personal trainer and will most likely sit for that certification over the summer 2009. I would love to get into sports medicine or kinesiology, but unfortunately I am limited geographically (for now anyway) in what programs are available to me. Things are pretty much better than I ever thought I had a right to expect. Ever time I update this little about me essay, I keep thinking things are going to have to level out with us or stagnate, but they never seem to do that. My husband is an amazing motivator and about as supportive of all my crazy ideas as I could possibly expect. We just seem to get better with time. Until the next update...
