Jennifer's Story

Life After Willow Glen, I went to Cal Poly, SLO as an English major and got my elem teaching credential. I met my husband at Cal Poly. We got married two years out of college and moved to Exeter, where we live on a 40 acre orange ranch about 3 miles out of town. For a girl raised in the city, I have enjoyed living in the country and raising a wild bunch of kids. We adopted 4 children and raised a 5th boy, who came to live with us at age 13. We have 10 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren, with another grandchild and great grandchild on the way. My husband, a former orange grower and packing house manager, is a fireman, EMT, and teacher in the state prison system. I am in my 30th year as a first grade teacher. I have my life elem credential, language dev. specialist credential, and national teacher certification. Our daughter is mentally retarded and has serious medical problems, but participates in Special Olympics and other activities. I like to travel, especially cruises. My favorite trip was to China. I fulfilled a life long dream to stand on the Great Wall of China, and to see the Terra Cotta Soldiers. We also took a pea pod boat up some isolated river and saw the hanging coffins. Then we went on a boat through the Three Gorges Dam. I am a compulsive reader. Give me a book and I am content. I have fought the battle of the bulg...Expand for more
e my entire life and finally succeeded with weight loss surgery. Unfortunatly I picked up a staph infection in the hospital and almost lost my life. I spent 6 weeks in the the hospital in intensive care and 4 months on IV antibiotics. An event like that makes you realize how tenious life really is, and what is truly important. I am not ready to check out yet, and still have some goals/dreams to fulfill. I want to write a book and have it published. I do not want to be an old granny with blue hair and orthopedic shoes. I just had eye surgery and do not need the glasses I have worn since I was eight year old. I have a reading eye and a distance eye. It's really great. I am happy with my life and have a great husband who has a crazy sense of humor. Life if never dull. Of course, our adult children call the Bank of Mom and Dad occasionly, but mostly are on their own. Because of my husband's jobs, I have learned to be independent when necessary. I think life is an adventure and you should not be afraid to live it to the fullest. I think everyone should accept people as they are, and enjoy friends and family to the fullest. My one major vice is flying first class. Once you fly in first, it's hard to return to coach. If I won the lottery, I would have a private jet at my disposal. That's all.
