Jera's Story

In high school I was a nobody, with very few friends, chubby pimpled and poor. No car No girl . One of the many nobodies no one noticed and if they did it was seldom positive. I didn't hate school but I didn't like it much. Lived in grandparents garage with my three younger sisters and mother. No clue where my dad had gotten off to or exactly why. I worked a full time job and barely managed to get through it all. Most of my high school days have long since faded away with the exception of a few horrid awkward memories. I joined the service got married and had some kids, pretty typical of guys in my social cast in those days. Then in 1982 I lost my wife and kids. Left the service shortly there after and drifted along for a few years. found myself in California, and then Wyoming. Wyoming is a big empty place with few people and few conversations. I fit in there and settled down to a quiet existence. There's more winter in Wyoming than anything else. It's cold and harsh and stretches on like the landscape. ...Expand for more
One thing about Wyoming is you can spend a lot of time in your head. Thoughts get re thought like watching the same show over and over on TV You can either let it drive you crazy or if you figure it out work some of them loose like tangled fishing line. Do that long enough and sooner or later you run out of those old thoughts and new ones slide in place of the old. Guess I got lucky there my thoughts took me up and away and became stories. To keep busy I started putting them down on paper. My typewriter's cadence a sort of therapeutic drum. Somewhere fate stepped in and some of these stories ended up where people that care about such things go hand on them and the rest just seemed to lay out like game tracks in the snow. Now some dozen books later here I sit a writer not acclaimed but well read enough to live a comfortable life. Funny thing is sitting in school back then I never dreamed I would someday be where I am or that I would have a Pen Name! Thanks Mrs Wiggly where ever you are for your kind smile
