Jeremy's Story

Life I new that partying and doing drugs got me nowhere in life. I was expelled from schools, and thought that I needed some truth in my life, so I began to search for the truth. After traveling around the world, sailing, hitchhiking, flying, taking trains and buses to some very remote and exotic jungles and beaches, I still felt like there must be more to life than what I had experienced. I studied many philosophers and religons, cults, and spiritualism and found that they were empty, circular, illogical, unapplicable, yet they all did have some truth to them. But as Sam Harris says, in his book "The End of Faith": they all cannot be the truth. I knew that I wasn't perfect nor could ever be perfect. So I realized that driving for perfection and achieving perfection were very different. I wasn't going to to follow someone who said follow me while I search for the truth, or follow someone who hasn't even achieved nirvana but is promising and hoping they will some day. Realizing that I was a fallen creature and needed real love, I new that all of the self help books "the secret" and such were miniscule attempts to masc the bigger problem: My seperation from the love of God. Returning to Hawaii, as a bartander, I soon realized my life was going nowhere and I needed a purpose in life, other than getting girls, and doing drugs and boozing it up. I felt empty and hopless. I saw through all of the fake people and their "having fun all the time" was getting really old. For the first time in a long time I prayed to God to show me a way out of my mess. Forgeting about my prayer, the bar manager started stealing money out of my drawer and was fired. However, I was demoted to barback because my drawer was always shor...Expand for more
t. Funny how things worked out. So I left hawaii and moved to Australia. People were extremely nice to me and invited me to go to a Bible study. I was hesitant but I thought, "there will be food and Im starving" so I decided to go. What I soon thought was how different and genuine that were compared to the freaky religous people that I was familiar with. They had a peace on their face that was like thay were stoned, but they weren't. They were high on life. I soon began to realize that my prayer back in Hawaii is being answered learning about the Bible. After 3 months of questions, Bible studies, and reading the New Testament, I came to the conclusion that I was going to invite Jesus into my heart (what would I have to lose). He said "I am the truth follow me", quite different than the other monks and eastern and western philosophers I had studied. After that I felt a peace that gave me hope and direction I needed, as a lifer bartender. God soon turned me into a gentelman and gave me the ability to have self control over many things. I went back to HB Got my AA at GWC and went on to Cal state fulerton Ba in English. I then got accepted to Graduate school for Biola. I have now graduated and I am currently looking for a job at a community college to teach Englsih literature and ESL. I cannot take credit for this, though. Other than obeying my calling from God. I knew who I was, so did my friends and family, and this new jeremy is so much better than the old one. I finally met the most beautiful future wife that a guy could ever ask for. Her name is Amy Conti and we will get married on Sept. 6 2008. We both love God and eachother so much. I have so much more to say. Peace like a river, Jeremy Massoud
