Jeri's Story

Life Life. What a category. I need to include, oh 35 years of events. It seems impossible to begin, so I guess I'll skim over the vague parts. . . After one year at MSU, followed by a rather severe falling out with my parents, I moved to East Lansing and lived and worked to become independent in the eyes of the Federal Government. I had some fun and spent a lot of my time on music, going to concerts and hangin out with my friends. I returned to school in '73 and graduated from WMU in '76 with a BS in elementary education. This got me no job offers at the time. I moved that Spring to Ann Arbor, where I have lived ever since. In 1979, I got a job as a nanny/mother's helper/housekeeper for a terrific family here in Ann Arbor. I cared for their two girls for 5 years. The oldest just got married last summer. We all all still very close and I consider them to be part of my family. In 1982, I had a chance to go on vacation to a girlfriend's house in Paris. She was working on her PHD there and asked me to come for a visit. On my first day there, I met a man on the Champs-Elysees. He was from Casablanca, Morocco. We fell in love (at first sight) and two years later, we were married on a rooftop in Casablanca. He returned with me to the US in January of '86. We were married for 12 years. We had two chi...Expand for more
ldren: my son Karim who is almost 18 and my daughter Anissa who is 15. We divorced in 1998, after 5 years of separation. He now lives in Europe and we have lost track of him for the most part. I became a fluent French speaker as a result of that relationship and now work in a private school for gifted kids here in Ann Arbor. I have also run my own business in my home for the last 20 years (tutoring students of French)I have had many opportunities to travel since I met and married a foreigner and my life has a somewhat international feel. I love France and usually visit once a year. Six years ago I bought a house for the kids and I. I work two jobs to support the three of us. I have not remarried and have not had much time for anything more than parenting and work and home maintenance. The kids are getting older and it is getting easier to carve out time for my self. My girls are my support system and I count myself lucky to have 5 close female friends (plus my two sisters). My son will begin community college in the fall of 2005. My daughter is a sophomore in high school. My passion is French and travel and cultures that are not mine and music and dancing and singing and people. I look forward to hooking up with some of you in the summer. It could be fun, if I can just remember who everyone is.
