Jeri S.'s Story

Not sure why I even joined this site. Maybe I was hoping to find a couple of the good friends from school. I really did not have many friends from school because I did not fit in or was not the type of person they wanted to be associated with.. I was not popular, pretty or smart. But, the few friends I did have, I will always remember them. My life was never easy, I had a trouble home life as a teenager, three bad husbands, cancer and lost the only good husband I had. I am not looking for pity, just telling how I felt at school and the one and only reunion I attended. If I did not fit in, It did not matter that I was there. Most everyone calls me Susie now. Was the name my Mother has always called me from the time I was born. Was know as Jeri in school. Not long after graduating, I went to work for Auto Shack (now AutoZone) at their corporate office as a secretary in the personnel office. I transferred to the Research Department as an Administrative Assistant and then to a Research Analyst. I was with the company for 20 years. Have 2 grown children and 6 grandchildren. I am now disabled from a mortorcycle accident in July of 2011. I lost my husband in the accident and I was severely inju...Expand for more
red. I spent 4 months in the hospital and I had to learn to walk again. I have also been fighting a rare cancer (Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma) for 16 years now. I lost my nose and right eye to the disease. I have a facial prosthetic that I wear.. I was recently diagnosed with that same disease in my left lung. Not giving up. Had treatment and am waiting for June 30th to find out if treatment is working. I also have a tumor at the base of my skull next to my brain. Had treatment in Jul. 2020 and it has shrunk some. Because this cancer is so rare, there is little research being done to find a cure or treatment to get rid of it. It does not respond to chemo, so I have to rely on surgeries and radiation. The tumor I have at my brain is inoperable. After the accident in 2011 I moved to Paris, TN. I attend church on a regular basis and try to enjoy life. I make trips to Memphis every now and then to see my doctors at West Cancer Center and Semmes-Murphy. Clinic to keep up with my cancer. I have been through a lot including three terrible marriages. I had one wonderful husband and he was the one I lost in the accident. Through all the good and bad I can thank God who has brought me through it all.
