Jeri's Story

May 18,2010 If anyone had ever told me in HS I would love gardening, I would have thought they were crazy! I can't believe it's been almost a month since I started planting. I want to put tomatos out so bad I can't stand it. Got the brussel sprouts covered. Hope it's warm and dry enough to get a lot out this week end. Ever feel like you're just talking to your self? April 26, 2010 Got brussel sprouts and broccoli in the garden over the weekend, Some sugar snap peas and potatos. If I don't get the green stuff covered, I'm going to be upset and covered with cabbage loopers. I spent Saturday planting cucumbers peppers and tomatoes and a few other veggies inside to plant later. Makes me really hungry for garden stuff. One of our silver tabby's just had kittens. My granddaughter Maddie is excited and scared because all our cats are outside kittys and sometimes the coyotes get the kittens. I'm trying to get Marsh to put them in the garage. When they're out in the barn, they're had to find and get wild real easy. Then the poor babies are more likely to succumb to larger animals. Life on the Farm!...Expand for more
April 10, 2010 I feel like I've lived a lifetime since I wrote the last time. Still have 4 wonderful Children, 14 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter. I spend most of my summer gardening, for winter canning and freezing and for summer farmers markets. Last year I was kept really busy. The law changed on home baked goods at road side stands and farmers markets, so I baked as well. Actually I baked more because that blight last year hit Wayne county and took almost all of my green beans and tomatos. I really didn't have a tomato that tasted good all year. I want to get chickens again this summer, I really miss the eggs. Marshall has to make the chicken yard coyote proof. We'll be busy with a 1 for 3 graduation party for our family when school is out. My granddaughter Derika, and my nephew Chase, are graduating high school, my grandson Vincent is graduating college. That's going to be a great time for all. That will be fitted in between planting and harvesting and all that other wonderful summer busyness. I think of school and friends with fondness and good feelings. Hope all are well.
