Jeri's Story

To be honest, I don't remember much about high school! I took the CHSP and left in my Junior year. That was an unhappy time in my life and I have few memories of school and classmates. Names ring bells but I have a hard time with faces to names. Maybe it's just the length of time since then that has blurred my memory. Following my back accident in '06 I was kept on increasingly stronger medication to control my pain levels which also made me forgetful. Also, I think I must have thrown away my old yearbooks and have no way to see what everyone looked like then to put a face to a name. After Central I went in and out of City college periodicly, eventually getting around 126 units I think and graduating from the police academy in '86. Although I was interviewed by lots of men who could readily guess my bra size but could not tell my eye color given that they had been looking below my chin during the whole interview, I did not go to work for any agency. Unless my breasts were being trained as a secret weapon, I could see no good reason why the rest of me should hang about. So, moving right along I went to work for the public library where breasts were only important if you were carrying the card catalog in your bra for easy access. At some point, I decided to go to Japan and teach english (my version of it) to business men, wives, children, and answer lots of questions about the nutty things we do over here. It was easier to just make stuff up. I have to say I have never been treated as well by the Japanese as by any other group I have met. I met my future husband, Bryan Summers, when he moved from Sacramento to Fresno for a job. We became very good friend...Expand for more
s which turned into love. We bought a house on Gettysburg between Fruit and West and were happy there until Bryan got a job offer to move. I said, sure, anywhere but the desert! Bryan said "Las Vegas!" Then we decided it would be a lot of fun, we'd stay a couple of years and then move somewhere with more green growing things. Unfortunately we didn't get out of Vegas in time to beat the real estate crash so we still have our house in Henderson as a rental. So, that sucks. So here we are in Sandy, Utah now. Bryan works as an Electrical Engineer for a gas company. He really loves his job, mostly because he works with some great guys who are fun to be around. I can't work a full time job right now because of my back situation. I hope I'll be able to find something I can do. In the meantime, Bryan is always supportive and doesn't pressure me to clean the house etc. We try to be good to each other and we are happy. So far I have 14 screws in my spine, three surgeries down and one more to go coming up soon. Not fun but hey I'm alive and can walk so it could be worse. I consider myself lucky that I have a great husband, supportive parents, loyal friends, furry kids I couldn't be without and a really good life, despite everything I've been through. I have two teenage nephews I love very much and would do anything for. I go to England a couple of times a year to visit friends and escape. Although I'm almost 50 and I never thought my life would be like this, I really am very happy and very, very lucky to have the people in my life and all the things I have. And there you have it, 50 years of life just like that!
