CLASS OF 1972

Jerome's Story

Hi, my name is Jerome Price. I graduated from Douglass High in '72. I was in the marching band. I graduated and went to UAPB on a band scholarship. I stayed there two years and then entered the USAF. From there I settled in Little Rock. I was married to Edna D. Gaskin and divorced in '79. Shortly there after i sought a change in my life and accepted my calling into the ministry, where i yet remain and happily. I play the bass guitar now for the gospel group "The Wonder State Gospel Singers". I also work with the Little Rock School District for 24 years and countinng..... I always wanted to stay in contact with the friends and fellow classmates of school years. It was a good time for me. Classmates like Larry Williams, Eugene Coleman, Diane Luckett, Larry Jordan, Mary Ann Parker,Gillispie, and so many others. That why i'm hunting a yearbook so i can see the faces and remember. I was quiet and laidback but i enjoyed my time with the people i come to know as my classmates of '72. I would love to here from some of them. So if any of you are reading this, drop me a line. I recently was in Memphis for Douglass' Graduation Class of 2012. and i learned some things that has me excited about the school. I always wanted to be a teacher when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a novel idea. As it turns out, they were right.. I do teach, just in a different classroom. My favorite way or should say ways to relax is read my bible, play my music, both gospel and r&b oldies, working out and taking long drives. You know the wildest thing that i ever did in school was take a ride in Pop's Volkswagon with him talking a thousand miles an hour and trying to teach me...Expand for more
to whistle like him. Like i said i was pretty laid back. But i did have heroes and champions in my life, my mother and my two oldest brothers. Fun ,loving, helpful and even critical in a constructive way helped me understand how to treat and deal with others. How even to laugh at yourself and say hey, its going to be alright. The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is Mary Parker, because she as everyone knows was my school sweetheart. I now hear that she has married and started a family and career. I'd like to meet them all.. Life doesn't always turn out the way you expect it, and i guess that holds true for me too. I remember in the first grade, we had what we called what do you want to be when you grow up day. There was alot of policeman ,fireman, nurses, doctors, pilots and the like, but when the teacher got to me, i said that i wanted to be a preacher. This was in 1960, and my teacher was a little surprised at my ans esp becacause i was the only one that said that. And now in 2012, i am a minister. and have been for 29 years. You know when i stop and think about it i would love to see some of my old teachers again. Ms. Key, 1st grade, Mrs Carter 3rd grade, Mrs Summerset 4th grade, Mrs Jones, 5th grade, Mr. Cooper 7-9 Band Director, Mrs. Butts 10th grade, my 12th grade History teacher and Pop, 12th grade Band Director. They all influence my life in one way. They all taught me how to be a good person; and i love them all for that. Well that is some of my story. I will add more later, but for now i will end it here. I look forward to hearing from some if not all of you. That would be a blessing indeed. Until then God's Peace be with you.
