Jerry's Story

I left Southwest High School when my parents moved to Douglasville Ga., There I auditioned for the band and started as the 1st chair trumpet. I joined the Marine Corps, as they were the only service to allow someone that was deaf in one ear. Graduated from boot camp at Parris Island, Marine Corps Recruit Depot. Served in Vietnam, and then Iceland. I received the National Defense, Vietnam Service, Presidential Unit Citation, Cross of Gallantry and got my GED while in the service. Played in the Marine Corps Drum and Bugle Corps, In Vietnam worked Shore Party & Combat Engineer. ment Bachelor of Arts, John A Gupton College- Mortuary Science and a Licensed Embalmer and Funeral Director in Arkansas and Mississippi. Worked as a civil servant Military Photographer 5 yrs, IRS- Facilities Management Analyst 3 yrs, Owner Operator and small fleet owner of trucks leased to North American Van Lines 5 yrs, Embalmer and Funeral Director 15 yrs. I've survived four hurricanes, the last one being Hurricane Katrina. I'm now retired with a veteran's disability. Presently retired, enjoy working in my wood shop making toys and different things. I also enjoy making people laugh, and going to the movies. Found the love of my life, in my senior years. We'll be holding hands and traveling to the last sunset. My only regrets are selling my houseboat.
