Jerry's Story

Life As most of you know, following graduation from Bayless, I enlisted in the U.S. Navy. I got married the first and only time around in 1980 to a gal I met while I was stationed with the U.S. Navy Showband out of New Orleans, La. After many duty stations and tours around the world with U.S. Navy Fleet Bands, I retired from the Navy in 1987..putting in 21 years service. Following the service I attended The College Of Lake County in Grayslake, Illinois and obtained a degree in Middle Management...graduated there in 1989. Took a postal exam in 1990 and began my second government job with the U.S. Postal Service as a City Letter Carrier in Waukegan, Illinois. In 1994 we transferred to Greenleaf, Wisconsin...just 20 miles south of Green Bay...yes home of the Famous GREEN BAY PACKERS....and by the way, we ARE season ticket holders! I continued on with the Postal Service as a City Letter Carrier in Green Bay until my disability retirement in 2004. Had a total of 14 years with the Postal Service. My Mother...God rest her soul..I loved her dearly..passed down her lousy knees to me, so following my retirement in July 2004, when September 2004 rolled around I had both my knees replaced! What an awesome feeling to be able to walk without pain and to have really "straight" legs! My wife Lisa is in sales..she works for a company called Hill-Rom. She is a sales rep and has a huge territory in N.E. Wisconsin and all the way over to Mayo in Rochester, MN. We never had any children. My hobbies are building and driving street rods. I presently have a '23 Ford t-bucket that I built in my shop and have on occasions brought it down to St. Louis and you know back in high school we ALL had a particular area that we kroozed over consistantley...you know like from Chuck-A-Burger back by Bayless, in and around Indian Hills...over to Steak-N-Shake ad nauseum.... I just had to do the same with the bucket...only took me 40 p...Expand for more
lus years to finally take my hot rod around the loop! Dad's 1960 Falcon back then just didn't cut it... :-) What else can I say..Winters are cold up here, but the Summers are very inviting and comfortable, unlike the dreaded ice storms in the Winter and humidity during the Summers in the St. Louis area. Hopefully the Green Bay Packers have a great season this year. I'm so glad I became a GOLD member with classmates.com as I've been able to renew old friendships once again. I've spoken with kids (?) :-) I haven't talked to in like 43 years...you know how AWESOME that is? So if any of you reading this wonder who I am...check out the 1966 yearbook. Hint: I was deeply involved in music while at Bayless. Remember the rock band that used to do teen town on a pretty regular basis? The VAPORS? Well I played trombone in that group. I've continued on with my music, though this time only as a hobby. I play bass trombone and perform in a couple adult community concert bands as well as an adult community jazz band. On Tuesday nights in Appleton, Wisconsin, just a short drive down the road from me, I play in a 17 piece jazz band at Frank's Pizza Palace. We play for beer and pizza! The band is composed of band directors within a 40 mile radius as well as music professors from Lawrence University there in Appleton and a couple of professors from UW Oshkosh and the band is kick-ass! We have a really great time and I love playing big band jazz...the beer and pizza isn't bad either . LOL! I'm sure I'll think of more I could have added...but email me and I'll fill you in on whatever you want to know. Don't you find these bios exciting? I'd really enjoy reading back from anyone I went to school with. These are interesting times for ALL of us...let's enjoy our friendships while we're all still around. Drop a line and we can talk/type once again. Some of Mr. McClintock's teaching paid off...I can type. LOL!
