Jerry's Story

Hi , It's diffrent trying to explain who you are, and what you do, compared to when we were in School. However, thats what this site is about. And a fun site ...I must admit. Well, where to start....as I am the same old Jerry you always knew. the class clown, always battling for the best put down (break) session, yet keeping humor within the group. I was not a jock, yet I played soccer and B-Ball and worked at restaurants, ahhh yes, this was nice to have a few bucks to go out during the weekends and be able to buy decent clothes. ....until I found a way to make tons of bucks!!!! cutting grass. 600 bucks a week on hot sumer days, then I was able to buy tickets to see various cool rock and roll shows and take my buddies to the Sunken gardens for outdoor shows. And purchase other items of interest for these events. Not to mention being able to go out on dates and not have to worry about the finances. I graduated in 1984 then went off to Corpus to Begin my life as a Telecom Technician and rediscover my passion for fishing, the Ocean, and be so broke that I learned to use the beach as a way to survive. I would catch fresh fish, trade some with the shrimpers for shrimp, trade some shrimp for beer, and use the excess catch of the day to trade for groceries at the mini Mart, play guitar and sing Eagles,James Taylor,Bob Dylan and others for tourists walking the beach for tips. Sometimes and old dude with his girl would drop a 20 in my jar, and man I was set for 10 bucks gasoline and 10 bucks sandwich building material for the whole week...wooo hooo, but this was a wonderful part of my life, simple , cool, and not a worry. Except my 1975 4 door Ford Maverick, it was like birth control, no chick would ever want to " get with me" driving that thing. Oh well, it got me around so I cant complain. ------------------ I then joined the telecom industry, went to Corpus Christi, then back to San Antonio, then to...Expand for more
Austin, then to Dallas.---------------- I became an engineer in the Fixed land networking and the Cellular deployment Networking fields. As I was single, I was easy pickings for my bosses to send me around the world and I loved it that way, the furthest , weirdest, most remote places is where I volunteered for. Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Croatia, Isreal, Russia, India, Australia,Tunesia,Laos,Cambodia,China,Barbados,Antigua and beyond way way beyond. I literally covered all the continents and many island nations. It was fun, lots and lots of fun, but I was becoming married to this company and love on the run was getting old.... After 72countries including many small island Nations. (Papau N.G. and Haiti were the wildest of all, gotta keep a rock star mentality to live there) from 1988-2009 it was time to hang my hat for some rest and a sense of balance. All this travel has helped my song writing and taught me how to appreciate what we have on a daily basis. I have amassed 14 guitars, 2 mandolins and a Banjo. the guitar has helped me retain a balance and sense of originality that traveling non-stop can take away slowly..if you let it. Favorite country was Cadiz, Spain and Melbourne,Australia. Favorite Island was Guam and Okinawa. Most remote and dreadful place I lived...A tie between the literal top of the world on the center of the arctic circle where there is no sunshine and it averages 40 below zero, Thule Greenland. / and the tiny, tiny island of Diego Garcia 2 degrees south of the equator in the middle of the shark infested Indian Ocean. No swimming, no chicks that didnt already have 3 guy friends,1 2 lane bowling alley , 1 place to eat as in everyday, but the fishing was good and we had some nice Rum festivals. I now am consulting for various networks and governments world wide. ------------------ Life is OK, but San Antonio is where the heart is. Viva Texas, San Antonio is always alive
