Jerry's Story

capes, etc., but sometimes dreams are shattered.
On May 7th, 1978, after a good morning of body surfing, there was one last wave to ride before lunch. It was a nice glassy 3ft tube heading north towards Sunset Beach. It began to close out, I tucked back under as usual, caught a sandbar head first. The impact broke my neck at C4 thru C6, leaving me paralyzed from the neck/shoulders down.
After a few crazy months of rehab and several years of adjustment, went back to school, got a degree in Computer Science. Continued study/training and received a few certificates in accounting, management and design/programming.
Worked my way up through the software development ranks; tech support, programmer, analyst, tester, designer, database administrator, development manager and lastly Chief Systems Architect.
Three decades plus later I'm still going strong. Found a beautiful woman to share life with. I may not be as agile as that 6ft young man so many moons ago and may be rolling about instead of walking, but even life at 4ft 6inches isn't to bad, in fact it's still pretty wonderful...
