Jerry's Story
Life
Hey! Been a while! In the intervening years, I've worked for the railroad, started and built an interstate trucking company, got out of that when the economy tanked, and am currently a licensed builder rehabbing old industrial buildings on the West Side. I was a neighborhood activist for over thirty years, was instrumental in starting the neighborhood organizing process in Grand Rapids, and founded the original organization that's become NEW Development Corp., a community development corporation that rehabs homes for sale to hardworking folks that wouldn't ordinarily be able to own their own home.
I see my current activities as an outgrowth of all that neighborhood organizing effort, but feel that I, myself, with my partner - a long-time West Side activist, also, am finally making a real difference in my community with what we're doing.

nture and mystery novels, and currently have four in print under the pen name G. F. Kaye, with many more to come, I hope. That took a brief hiatus, however - if just over a year can be called brief - in November of 2004 while I was recovering from several injuries sustained in an argument with some black ice - on a curve, of course - at 70 mph. What that did, though, in retrospect, was give me the chance to take a good look at my life, thus far, and what I've done.
You don't always get that chance.
The recovery was long and involved, however. In brief, I tell people I died, but got better! Fortunately I did recover - though there are some that will argue that! I consider myself lucky. I now also consider any day that I get to see at all a great one! Coming that close to the edge does give you a whole different perspective!
Trust me!
But, so much for me!
