Jerry's Story
I left Eureka in the fall of 69 and headed for Central Washington State (now University in Ellensburg, Washington. I graduated in '74 with a B.A.Ed with a major in Math. Played a little baseball and basketball there. Not good enough to play pro like some of the boys at Eureka. None the less, I enjoyed my years at college. Got a job in Tacoma, Wa teaching math near McChord Air Force Base. Coached most everything except wrestling. My favorite was girls softball. I ended up with a record of 127-22. I lived in Tacoma for 20 years. I got tired of the State always cutting the education budget each year after promising that they wouldn't...so I just quit and moved to Montana.
I brought a bar & restaurant in 1994. That was quite a change in job description so I have been told. Unfortunately, it burned down in 2003. It was a pretty cool place with a beer garden and horseshoe pits. In the meantime, the local school superintendent found out that I was a math teacher and attempted to convince me to go back to teaching. I guess I did miss teaching. eaching again. In 2002, I started a golf team for both boys and girls. I still coach them today. I am between a 8 and 12 handicap for those folks who read this. Lower towards an 8 near the end of summer. I was approached by the President of our local community college to start teaching there in 2005. So, I completed my masters degree and presently am working on my doctorate degree in education. I just need to send them about $30,000. I also am the grant director of 2 grants. One is for alternative energy and the other is for improving math and science skills in our local high school and college students.
I basically teach teachers on how to teach better using technology. I really love doing that.
I really miss living by the ocean. Out here, we have very little trees and lot's of rolling fields of wheat. I suspect that I will move back to the coast in the near future, most probably in Oregon.
So, there you have it. I haven't stayed in contact with most everyone in Eureka. I do plan on attending our reunion in late August. Hopefully, renew some old friendships.
