Jeryl's Story

Life Greetings, fellow Blue Devils. Here's the bief bio on yours truly since the Class of 67 at NoChas HS. Graduated University of SC with BA and MA in Broadcast Journalism. Along the way roomed with Don Eubanks and David Donmoyer, while doing radio, TV and print work. After college, I taught on the Journalism faculties of Miami of Ohio n Oxford, Ohio, and Washington & Lee University in Lexington, VA, until moving from Virginia to Savannah, GA, in 1977 to marry my bride of 30 years now, Ellen, who is a cytology specialist, one of only several hundred so certified in the US (She's really good at what she does!). In Savannah, I led the Public Relations effort for the county school system for several years before moving into healthcare marketing and PR, a field I have specialized in now for 25 years. That has included leadership in three healthcare systems, two in GA and the current one in NC, where I serve as VP, Marketing & Public Affairs. I took a six-year hiatus from the non-profit sector in GA to co-found an ad agency on Hilton Head Island before the move to NC in 2002 to work with a CEO I had worked with previously in Savannah. ied and conducting research toward his doctorate at the University of Alabama in archaeology. Ellen and I have been blessed with one child, a son, Jeremy, who was married in Savannah last summer to a wonderful young lady, Elizabeth. After graduating from the University of Georgia and working in the field for a couple of years, he is currently pursuing his masters degree in Archaeology (specializing in Mississippian archaeology) at the University of Alabama, and Elizabeth is seeking her masters Elementary Education, while teaching kindergarten full-time. Ellen and I enjoy traveling and will be in Scotland this summer celebrating our 30th anniversary along with Jeremy and Elizabeth who will celebrate their first anniversary the day we all arrive. We live in the Foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Western NC, a really beautiful area. Morganton is a delightful city of about 20,000 people, just named the top retirement town in the state. I continue to love the outdoors, antiques and fitness activities. Ellen loves growing roses, cooking and music. We are real fans of Miniature Schnauzers and are enjoyin our third pooch in the breed, Heidi, who is a real hoot.
