ana P. and Evelia R. Boy Scouts (Webelos) and those cool red berets we wore during America's bicentennial celebration at the town park in 1976. Graduating with a bandage over my right eye and leaving all my friends that summer to move up to Northern California.
Remember the feeling of not fitting in my first year at Ripon High and then not wanting to leave my senior year. Memories of angel flight pants, dancing to disco music, rocking to Boston while riding in P. Sandoval’s (Starsky & Hutch look-like) car. Sally O. and Karen B. called me “JERRY.” I ran a 2'07" half-mile (Hosley was the coach). Warmed the bench in basketball (Verink was the coach). Played guitar in a jazz band, not knowing how to read music. Missed prom (too shy and had no car) but going to school dances was fun. Grad-Nite at Disneyland...saw Cool and the Gang, KC and the Sunshine Band, and friends from Holtville Jr. High yelling out "WEESO" while in line at the Pirates of the Caribbean ride. Four years went by fast. That is what I remember about Ripon High.
