Jessie Varner's Story
After high school, I went to Barnes Hospital School of Nursing. There I met a pharmacy student from Decatur, IL and we married in 1968. I graduated with a diploma in 1969 and my husband graduated in 1971. Our son, Jason, was born in 1971 and we moved to Decatur. Kimberly was born in 1972 and Cassie in 1979. In 1983 I graduated from the University of IL with a BSN. Most of my nursing career was in obstetrics. In 1995 we moved to Poplar Bluff, MO and in 2000 we moved to our present home in O'Fallon, MO where my husband was the manager of the pharmacy at Barnes Jewish St. Peter's Hospital. He retired in 2012.
Our son, Jason, graduated from the U of I (engineering) and is presently a Lt Colonel in the USAF reserves. He is married to Jennifer, a veteri...Expand for more

Kimberly is an RN with 3 grown daughters and 3 new grandbabies this year. She recently moved to Las Vegas.
Cassie graduated from the Universty of Missouri at Springfiled with a degree in social work and lives near us. She now has 5 children and works for a program called First Steps, assisting families with children with developmental delays.
I stopped working in 2004 due to arthritis in my feet and had surgery to fuse joints in both feet in 2006. The surgery did help but I decided not to return to work. We presently babysitting Cassie's 3 youngest children and that takes up most of our time. Any spare time I have is spent quilting, doing genealogy, taking pictures, and working on my vintage sewing machines.
