Jillian Ann's Story

From Fourth grade right up through 12th grade graduation I was bullied. My bullies? Most of my grammar school classmates. The WORST bullies were the Bernauers (Brian, Gary, & Paul). Brian & Gary actually tried to physically injure me, Paul pretty much left me alone from 10 - 12 and Bill Towne. Bill used to harrass me at every opportunity. When Heather Effigenio (not sure about the spelling) first moved to our area, I called her to ask if we could play. Heather told me "Melanie O'Hare told me if I played with you, no one will play with me." Melanie O'Hare - ironically we met at the doctor's office and she greeted me like we were old pals. At various times Donna Moore, Joe (Joey Arthur Morrow), Reid Bowers, Bill McCoy, even a girl who had been my friend in grammar school bullied me in junior high - Cindy Rodgers - she had such pretty red hair . . . . So, Bullies, I hope your children were bullied at school the same way you bullied me; I hope you're fat, bald, and broke. You didn't brake me - I have hope. * In 1979 I changed my name from "Jill" to Jillian. * December 2006, my daughter graduated from UCD with a BS in Human Development and embarked on a career in teaching -- second grade! * I did my JC at College of the Redwoods, and graduated from SJSU with a BFA in Fine Arts Photography (would you like fries with that?). I also do bead-work, jewelry making and other items that amuse me. I'm still a movie buff, still looking for humor, and read cook books for fun, etc. * I never really saw myself as a part of the "corporate machine," but I tried it for about 16 years. Bad idea. Just to be clear, for me, being a "starving artist" beats the hell out of being a well paid member of the headset brigade at a multinational corporation. * I'm near Davis in Rosevillle. * I'm calmer now -- make no mistake, being "calmer" does not mean CALM. What a long, strange trip it's been to learn how important it is to take time out to stop and eat the roses. * If you made it this far, and wish to "reconnect" try me: planet jillian too at comcast dot net * School Art classes and IMPROV were my anchor in high school. I really miss IMPROV -- t...Expand for more
hat's why I watch "Whose Line is it Anyway." Man, Drew Carey is a brilliant stand-up comedian, but he cannot improvise to save his life. IMPROV's faculty advisor, Dave Burmester, was my favorite teacher. He was smart, witty, and inspiring. -I was at a public function where a man named Burmester was introduced & applauded. Afterward, I approached him to ask if he was one of Dave's brood. He answered in the affirmative with a look of dread on his face. I asked him if he would please tell Dave "Hi from an old IMPROV'er." Relief flooded his face as he realized I wasn't going to make him memorize my name or take notes. -My daughter was lucky enough to be in one of Dave's classes. She told me that when he was taking role and came to a familiar name, he asked if she was my daughter. She answered, "yes," and he shook his head and said when his former students' children are his current students he was old and should retire. College I entered college at age 23. I did JC at College of the Redwoods in Eureka, thinking I'd transfer to Humboldt state. A friend in the south bay suggested I move closer to where she & her husband lived. So, I obtained my 'Bachelor of Fine Arts with Distinction in Photography' [my diploma actually says all this] at San Jose State University. I really loved being in college, I was truly bummed when I came to the end of my financial aid and the 'graduation police' made me graduate. Of course, I can always go for an MFA . . . Workplace I had an epiphany: the vice president (VP) in my department's JOB was to lie his *ss off to employees to placate, calm, and get them back to work. I have a zero tolerance policy when it comes to lying -- with my epiphany, the credibility of the company to which I had been so loyal, for which I had been so flexible (my aching back) -- evaporated. I ended my employment there. My stress level dropped considerably, my health improved, and I don't have to put up with lies to stay employed. Now, if the elected officials in our government would stop lying . . . . Military Although I did not enter the military and we are conducting two illegal wars, I support our troops.
