Jill's Story

Life I graduated law school and moved to Arlington, TN - a city just outside Memphis, TN. I am a practicing attorney in both state and federal courts in the following areas of law: Criminal Defense, Bankruptcy, Family and Juvenile litigation. My husband and I were married in May of 1993 and we are "on the fence" about whether or not to start a family. Right now my "baby" is a 2005 Daytona Blue 350z. Yes, I finally got my sports car. I got my first speeding ticket five days after we purchased it. Oops! Anyway, there's advantages to being an attorney... Last year, we had a home built and are loving every minute of home ownership. I also love furnishing it! Now we're taking on the task of finishing the "bonus room" over the garage. When completed, it will house a pool table and bar area. Next year I hope to start landscaping the backyard and add a pool for those HOT summer months! We enjoy water activities (boating, swimming, sea doos), camping, movies, and walking. School Went to Ponderosa Elementary until 1982. I had Mr. Goltzer for 6th grade and won a chess trophy! Attended Peterson Middle School from 1982-1985. I was in Choir and Teen Angst 101. I just remember the D.J. played Open Arms at every school dance...Now when I hear that song, I want to... oh, never mind. Attended Adrian C. Wilcox High School from 1985-1988. Here, I was in Choir for Junior and Senior years and made Canta Nova my senior year. Also took Foods and made cookies to pass out in Choir. I had many good friends and hope they are all doing well. Graduated and left for Chico State...for more on college, read my college bio! College I went to Chico State right after high school and s...Expand for more
pent more time partying and less time studying -- no big surprise. I left after one year, came back to the bay area, got an apartment with my boyfriend and began working for Embassy Suites Hotel. In 1995, I decided to go back to school and pursue a juris doctorate. I graduated with honors from San Jose State University with a B.A. in Political Science and a minor in Sociology. I then attended Santa Clara University School of Law. In 2002, I graduated from Santa Clara University School of Law and moved to Tennessee. And the rest, as they say, is history... Workplace My first job in high school was at Nichols Research. We did research studies via the telephone. Kind of ironic since now my biggest pet peeve is telemarketers! I left Nichols for KFC in 1986 and worked there for my last two years of high school. I met my future husband there. And who said you can't find love among fried chicken? My next job was after Chico State at Embassy Suites Hotel in 1989. I stayed there until 1999 when I began full-time studies at law school. After my first year of law school, however, I went back to work for Embassy Suites for extra cash. During my summers, I interned at Legal Advocates for Children and Youth as a law clerk. I LOVED it! Too bad when I graduated there were no job openings there. I probably would've stayed in California....maybe not. Once I got to Tennessee, I passed the bar (first try) and got a job as an attorney at Cordts and Gulley. Now I am working for the Hurst Law Firm. I'm handling bankruptcy, criminal law, family, and social security claims. It's a great firm to work for and I enjoy my work very much! I can't imagine doing anything else.
