Jim's Story
Ha! Where do I start in the telling of such a convoluted and surprising story. Suffice it to say for the moment that I am happy.
I have pretty much always been happy. The odds seem to be stacked in favor of remaining happy for the rest of my days.
Life has been an amazing journey for me with surprises and the unexpected pretty much the rule.
I live in the Dominican Republic with my Haitian wife. I am still working and love my job. I wouldn't call what I do a career, it's
just something I discovered along the way. I run ocean going tugs and travel all over the world. It's adventurous and damned
scary at times. But, always very stimulating and interesting. Most of my life is spent in the Caribbean, Central America and
the Pacific Ocean all the way to Singapore.
I enjoy photography, building things, spending a lot of time on the beach and wandering around the island of Hispaniola in my
Jeep. My wife is young, snazzy and a bit of a hand-full at times while I am old and trying my damnedest to keep up with her.
I have enjoyed life to the fullest and would really like to correspond with any of you who may be interested in ...Expand for more

stories, surprises and adventures.
June 22,2012 Just thought I'd add a few more odds and ends to the story. I have adopted (unofficially) a little
Haitian girl that I found starving to death on the side of the road. The police and local officials gave her to me to care
for as that was about the only possible future for her. What a handful that turned out to be. It was an unexpected and
extremely difficult work of love and patience. It was like taking a wild animal into your home and then trying to domesticate. It was a long and arduous chore but worked out happily for her. She's now six, in school and doing well.
She has a very nice assortment of clothes and many, many friends in school. When I found her she had never had
a pair of shoes on her feet. She was beaten badly in the life and death competition for food on the street.
She had been born without hope or dreams of any kind...we have no concept of that in our world and it is almost
impossible to imagine. But anyway it worked out and I am very pleased and happy to have been able to give life to this
child. Her name is Yolanda. And I love her as my own.
