Jim's Story

Life Jim Clinton Jim Clinton serves as CEO of the Central Louisiana Economic Development Alliance (CLEDA) in Alexandria, Louisiana. CLEDA is a regional economic development organization dedicated to improving the quality of life in Central Louisiana. Jim lives in Alexandria with his wife, Susan and son, Cooper. He has two grown sons: Jay and Ryan. His eldest son, Rende, died in 2018. Jim previously served as executive director of the Southern Growth Policies Board, a North Carolina-based think tank providing public policy expertise to thirteen Southern states and Puerto Rico. Southern Growth is a multi-state compact whose mission is to help create economic opportunities throughout the region. Jim also served as president of the Louisiana Partnership for Technology and Innovation and president of Gulf South Research Institute. In the 1970s, Jim served in a variety of state government positions in Louisiana and was lead author of the plan that reorganized Louisiana's executive branch from more than 250 governmental units into 20 principal...Expand for more
departments. In 1976-77 he managed the Louisiana Superdome's transition from public to private management. Jim is a member of the boards of directors for the Louisiana Policy Institute for Children and America's Kitchen Table. He was a lead author for a number of Southern Growth Policies Board reports including Brave New South, WorkforceSouth.biz, the New Architecture of Rural Prosperity, The Mercedes and the Magnolia, The Globally Competitive South (Under Construction), Reinventing the Wheel, The Southern Innovation Index, and Invented Here: Transforming the Southern Economy. Jim has written for regional and national publications, including Southern Cultures, Spoon River Poetry Review, CrossRoads, Chattahoochie Review, WORD, and Coast and Sea. His book of poetry, What is Fair, was published by the Louisiana State University Press. Jim is a frequent keynote speaker at the regional and national levels on a wide variety of topics involving economic opportunity. He is also an experienced facilitator on public and institutional issues.
