Jim's Story

Life Served LDS mission in West Berlin, Germany. Graduated from BYU. Married Christine Grace and had 5 children. She died in 1980. Married Bette Call. Between us we had 8 children, then we had two children of our own. A daughter which made 9 between us, then we lost a son who was the tenth. We've lived in Utah, Wyoming, South Dakota, New Mexico, Colorado, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Virginia and now Idaho. (I probably should have joined the Armed Forces, I would have moved less. Companies for which I worked either eliminated their engineering department or were bought by another company and they eliminated the engineers). I've had various progressive positions, starting out as a junior engineer after graduation and moving to VP of Engineering prior to retiring. I'm a registered civil/structural engineer working now as a sole-proprietor. We've dropped our children...Expand for more
off all over the US. Idaho, Utah, New Mexico, Georgia, Virginia and Minnesota. (You know how teenagers are when they're 15-18, so we'd wait until they left for school, pack up and move before they came home and leave no forwarding address. Left the stress behind ;-) ) We have 30 grandchildren at this time, the oldest is 25 and the youngest 2 weeks (Sep 2014) Now semi-retired, I started my own business and consult with the companies for whom I've worked, companies to whom I've been referred and, train users on process simulation software I've been using for 20 yrs (the owner contacted me when I retired and asked if I would be interested in being the company trainer for North America). Have a lot of fun continuing to do something I've enjoyed for 40+ years, but being able to say 'no I'm busy right now' without the concern of not having a 'job' (position) and income.
