Jim's Story

Since leaving Owen Sound in 1962 to play Lacrosse in Fergus, I joined CIBC and spent a career of 37 years with the Bank. Progressing through the junior positions, I was made a Manager in 1971, and over the next 27 years served as Manager in Claremont, Thessalon, Seaforth, Parkhill and New Liskeard. I retired in 1999 age 57 and relocated to Huntsville, in Muskoka. This put me within 50 kms of my Cottage on Raven Lake near Dorset Ontario. Since then I have moved to Bracebridge area and live in a log home in the small hamlet of Fraserburg on the South branch of the Muskoka River. I still enjoy getting out to the cottage a few days each week in the summer. During retirement, I have been a convenor/president of a Seniors bowling league for 10 years, I also belong to the Centennial Seniors in Huntsville, and served as President for a period of 3 1/2 years, ending my term in 2009. I still am a member of the Advisory Board. I also am a member of a Committee of Adjustment for the Township where my cottage resides, and we deal with minor variances. I have done this for the past 11 years, and continue. Additionally, I enjoy fishing, and go away on a trip every Spring to Antler's Lodge at Deux Rivieres, on the Ottawa River.. This Spring was my 22 consecutive year there. I was introduced to fishing by my Dad, and he was my fishing buddy for over 50 years. For a number of years I had the priviledge of going on my annual fishing trip with my Dad and my Son - very special. This year a new tradition started with myself (now the senior member) along with my Son and Grandson. I also like to garden, and along with my friend/partner, Bonnie, take care of our 2 acre property along with many flower beds and gardens. The past two winters we have taken Carribean cruises (last winter 2011-11 days) and have enjoyed the break in February very much. For the winter of 2011-2012 we are booked on another cruise - this time for 2 weeks. My Motto these days is "Make every day count" and "Make a difference" I am interested in connnecting with friends from the past, and especially the fellows from the 1960/61 Legion Juve...Expand for more
nile Hockey Team, which progressed to the All Ontario Finals. 2011 is the 50th year anniversary...Maybe we should all get together..... I always tried to be personable as I grew up. That was a trait that served me well in my career and social contacts. I try to remember a comment from my Dad "Does it really matter?" Most times it doesn't..so just let it go and move on My fave way to relax is to take my aluminum fishing boat out on the lake, trolling, after dinner, and just take in all the sights and sounds of nature I get my inspiration from my family; my Mom and Dad (now looking down on me from above) for their loving relationship and my sisters for helping to keep us all together on at least an annual basis. We have for the past several years, been having a "family reunion" at one of our places on a rotating basis. I'm a die hard Leafs fan -reason....No matter how bad your day has been just watch the Leafs and then realize that your problems are small compared to theirs.(lol) As much as I thought I knew what they were doing, stories shared later proved that I didn't. However I was blessed with a daughter and son who grew up well, and have prospered in their chosen fields My best friend would tell you I'm easy going and positive, but people who don't know me very well would probably describe me as stern. I wore a suit and tie for 37 years during my working career. Now I enjoy dressing mostly casual, but still clean up fairly well when the occasion calls for it. In 10 years, I hope to be alive and vital. I'm going to get there by having a healthy diet and exercising. My Dad...He taught me how to fish, and for over 50 years was my fishing buddy. For several years I was fortunate to go away on an annual fishing trip with both my Dad and my Son...very special My first job was at Graham's Dairy, where I got paid $4/day to deliver milk. What I remember most about it is learning where all the people lived in the East side of the city. The fellowship and team spirit of the 1960/61 Legion Juvenile Hockey Team...It really taught me the importance of "TEAM" If you make contact, I will respond.
