Jim's Story
After Mainland, I went to DBJC and then studied EE at the U of F, Worked in NASA space-related industry near Cape Kennedy after university. Moved to San Francisco area in 1968 working in telecoms industry in Marketing/Sales. Was appointed Managing Director Middle East and was living with my family in Tehran when the revolution deposing the Shah took place in 1979. Was evacuated and ultimately changed fields.
My wife, Luz, is an accomplished painter in oils and I found myself smitten with the process. Since I couldn't draw a stick figure, I got involved in Gallery biz and founded San Francisco Art Exchange LLC with a partner in 1983 specializing initially in modern masters (Picasso, Chagall, etc), but soon took a turn toward the art of popular culture after becoming the original dealer for the Alberto Vargas estate (Ziegfeld Follies, Esquire, Playboy etc). That led to us also becoming the first continuing representative for the ...Expand for more
paintings and prints of Rolling Stones' guitarist, Ronnie Wood, which in turn resulted in us developing relationships, over time, with nearly 200 artists/photographers in the R&R music world. In more recent years the scope has expanded to include artworks related to a broad spectrum of other areas of the popular narrative: Hollywood, Historical subjects, civil rights, sport, etc.
I've been married to Luz Maria (from Chile) for 45 years...absolute love of my life, and inspiration for my 38 year career in art. She worked in quality control at the Telcoms company that I joined when relocating to California, and I was immediately smitten. We have 5 Children and 14 grandchildren. With a hiatus or two to Wash DC and Tehran, I've lived in SF Bay Area since 1968.
Luz has her own gallery; Luz Fine Art Gallery
And mine is San Francisco Art Exchange. Both have websites which are easily found online.
