Jim's Story

After North Albion Collegiate I attended University of Toronto and graduated in 1978. An executive MBA, completed in 1984, rounded out the academics. I started my working career with Gulf Oil Canada, first in Finance (it was a mistake) and later in Marketing. In 1982 I joined an international advertising agency, McCann Ericson and a few years later joined Bates advertising. Those were fun years and while not exactly like the show "Mad Men" there were many similarities. After a short time as a partner in an acrchitectural interior firm, I went out on my own and formed a marketing consultancy firm which I ran and grew for nine years until I came accross an opportunity to purchase my current company, Marshall Fenn Communications, which I completed in 1993. Our firm today is a successful enterprise with offices in the U.S. and here in Toronto and I can admit that I am still having a ton of fun and I truly enjoy my life.(ok, there are moments when I might have a slightly different perspecive, but they pass quickly) I met Kathryn at Gulf in 1978 on my first day of work and six years later (nothing like being absolutely sure) we married in 1984. rt and we decided to start a family. So in 1996 my daughter Sarah was born and in 1999 we had Alexander. These guys might some of the reasons why I am still having so much fun. They are great to be around, they keep me laughing and young at heart. (if only the rest of my body would feel the same way) I am fortunate to be able to enjoy the things I love to do and share them with my family. My son is now thirteen years old and loves to golf (among his varius other activities) so that's fun for us to share. he also loves baseball but my pitching arm isn't what it once was. Sarah is a typical 16 year old, interested in stuff that tweens love, which is mostly stuff that annoys their parents - no exception here, but she is overall a great kid and we love to clown around and travel together. Those of you reading this who knew (know) me well, know I've had a burning passion for aviation since childhood. I started flying in 1977, ran out of money, restarted the lessons and finally got my pilot's license in 1981. In fact I bought my first airplane 1980 with a partner some of you might remember, Bruce Sharron. Today, I continue to fly both for business and pleasure to many wonderful places with the family. That's it for me so far....drop a line to say hi. Best Regards, Jim
