Jim's Story

Welcome to my "story." Over the years, I have met many people and had many experiences. During my high school years, I attended four different schools. Pelham Memorial High school in Pelham,NY, Judson School in Scottsdale,AZ, Greenwich High in Greenwich,Ct and Saguaro High in Scottsdale,AZ. The years covered are 1962-1969. One thing I learned during those years was to adapt to new people and places. I made friends at each school and hope to reconnect with with them through this web site. I got hung up on credits transfering around and ended up having to go five years to graduate. I think the last year was certainly worth it. I learned a lot, had a great time and it kept me out of the draft and Vietnam. My last two years at Saguaro were wonderful. It was a new school, the people were friendly and I felt like I really belonged. The last year, I sang with the Voices of Saguaro, the top singing group at the school. We put on two plays, sang at events and traveled to Tucson to sing at other high schools and at a high school competition. Lots of fun! During the last two years I discovered girls were fun too and spent much time learning about them. School dances and football games were cheap dates with the girl of the month or week. Looking back, I regret that I didn't spend more time with some. There were some "quality" ladies that I could have and should have stayed with longer....I think I was learning a lot about myself during those times and wish I had the maturity to make better decisons...my apologies to anyone who felt slighted by my actions. For the most part, for those interested, just a lot of kiss and run...I didn't consider myself a ladies man but I did go out a lot. Moving on to college...I went to Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Arizona and majored in Radio and Television/Mass Communications. I learned that I didn't know too much and had a lot of growing up emotionally to do. Met and almost married a woman I spent most of four years with. She was wonderful and I was not...still had some growing up to do...we grew apart after I took a midnight shift as a DJ at a radio station. The DJ job paid the bills and helped pay off my student loan after I graduated. The following year I took an engineering job at the local TV station in Flagstaff. Great job...sit on a mountain and watch TV all day and fix anything that broke. Eventually was able to continue with the TV station and also work at the radio station on the weekends and also DJ at a disco two nights a week... three jobs at the same time...Good money and good times for a single guy. Eventually, I met Claire, got married and moved to Phoenix. Worked at, and later, managed a stereo s...Expand for more
hop in Phoenix. Was hired by AT&T and continued to work for them for 27 years doing several jobs, including account executive with cable sales and, finally, an account specialist/manager who maintained and fixed problem accounts and worked with people from around the world on a daily basis. Very challenging! Then... AT&T closed our location and gave me the chance to relocate to Ohio. It might have been a good thing to do, considering the recession, but I decided to call it a career and take my pension and benefits and stay in sunny Phoenix. It's funny, that three months later, I went to Ohio to see the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and then participate in a roller coaster marithon lasting 19 hours!! GREAT TIME!!! Now I am a part time handyman keeping my house, rental property and friends homes and businesses in one piece. Jack of all trades and master of none. I enjoy the free time that allows me to garden, maintain "the money pit," ride roller coasters, participate in a oldies record club and travel with my wife and family. Speaking of my wife and family, I saved, in my opinion, the best accomplishment of my life, so far, for last. After all the looking around and years searching for the right person, I married and I'm still with Claire. Over 32 years to date(11/09). We have three children. Two boys and one girl. All are grown and two are out of the house. I'm particularly proud of how they turned out. A lot of the credit goes to Claire, but I helped...Some of my fondest memories are of long vacations together in our RV. We saw many places and had many experiences together. It is most satisfying to see some of the qualities learned from my wife and I used by my children. If they are my legacy to the world, then I am proud to say I left this world a better place than when I started... 6/16... Here's a long over due update. I found a job working in a warehouse, of all places. did lots of different jobs for the warehouse including build, test, deliver and instruct the customer how to use motorized wheelchairs. I was in great shape for an old guy, doing heavy jobs a 20 something would do. Not bad money and it got me up to a decent monthly amount from social security. I retired again a year ago and have been busy keeping the money pits in good shape, still riding roller coasters, traveling, cruising and enjoying two grandchildren. The children are now married and finding their way through life. I also just started taking my Bernese Mt. dog to a hospital as a therapy dog. Very rewarding. Not exactly a super "This is your life" kind of story but it summarizes what I have been up to over the last few decades. I hope there's a lot more to come...
