Jim's Story
Jim lives in Morristown, Tennessee. He attended Horlick High School and graduated in 1966. After serving four years in the Air Force. He attended Bemidji State University, graduating in 1975 with a degree in Social Studies and a minor in English. After graduation he taught at the high school level for 25 years. He taught in Grand Rapids, Minnesota, Wurtzburg, Germany and Pensacola, Florida. In 1980 he joined the Reagan for President Campaign and served as Deputy Director of Volunteers at the campaign's National Headquarters. After President Reagan's victory he was appointed to the Department's of Education and Defense before joining Clarence Thomas at the Equal Employment Opportunity Commision where he served as an aide to the future Supreme Court Justice. f the future titled Project 2000 was published in 1985. His work was taken over by the Department of Labor and according to Justice Thomas became the foundation for the Department's Jobs Training and Partnership Act. He is married to the former Shannon Clements and has three children and four grandchildren.
In 1994 he ran for the United States House of Representatives. After he lost to Joe Scarborough in the primary he became Scarborough's campaign chairman and campaign manager. After Scarborough's victory Jim returned to teaching. Scarborough would eventually serve three terms in congress and soon after became host of Morning Joe on MSNBC. In 2000 Jim ran for Superintendent of the Escambia County school district. After his victory he was reelected in 2004 and retired in 2008.
