Jim's Story
What do I remember about Emery?
Walking to school uphill both ways.
Mr Martinello's Man and Society class.
Mrs Allen's English class
Mr Connolly's math class.
Small parts in the school plays.
Two guys named Larry Anderson and one named Barry Anderson all in the same class.
Playing goalie on the lacrosse team without real pads.
Clapping our hands when the cheer leaders asked us to stomp our feet and vice versa.
Watching the Canada Russia hockey series in the cafe.
Joe McCool trying to convince the teacher on the first day of classes that it was his real name.
Computer classes where you pencilled in your cards and got them back a week later
Someone arriving at school having forgotten to put her dress on.
Someone locking his keys in the car with the engine running.
And a lot of other things.
After Emery, I went to Carleton and York. I started in English but ended up i...Expand for more
n foreign languages. I spent summers working in Germany or learning French. But after university I didn't think that I spoke either well enough to go to grad school so I spent a year at university in France. That got my French up but ate up any money I needed for grad school so I worked for a while and ended up going to teachers' college. Any way after moving around a lot I've settled in the village of Sydenham (north of Kingston) and have been here for 20 years (where did the time go?)
I've been married to Judy since 1984 (like George Orwell) and have three boys the oldest is going to Waterloo in September.
I've continued to travel. My family has done two house exchanges, one to England and one to France. I also take students to France for a school exchange every two years, March 2009 will be my last exchange before retirement. (not that I'm counting the days)
