Jim's Story
Life
Well, as some of you may remember, I came to Gladstone when my father married Pauline Dierickx. I stuck around after graduation and tryed my hand at college and carpentry but alas, I longed for a better education and joined the Military for just long enough (6 yrs) and then my plan was to return to Oregon and marry a local girl...well that back fired and next thing ya know I'm in Virgina and about to retire (21 yrs) later. One of these days I'll post before and after photo's but I get sidetracked and forget...Hmmm, could it be age??
Pauline left us last year for heaven and she will be missed. Many knew her and were touched by her.
Last time I was home, Glenn Echo and Main st as well as much of the town were unchanged. Many happy memories of such a small town. Sometimes it sucked to have my parents know of something I had done only moments before getting home. Word of mouth sure travel quickly! LOL
Hey...what the hell happend to High Rocks???
Met my 1st wife while attending basic training in the Navy, near Chicago.
4/15/2008 update:
Am now divorced.
My Pets
Oliver is a 8 month old golden retriever.
My Kids
they are great, Justin is like his mother and Katie is like me. You guess who I favor!
My Job
Very rewarding, retired after 21 years in the military and can recommned it to anyone. It has changed my life and enabled me to take on as much responsibility as I could handle. Serving our country has it's rewards and it's not money!
Work for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and am working towards my second retirement! Long to return to Oregon!!!!
I currently live in Suffolk, VA.
Military
Been around the world. East coast, west coast, so many countries. Tours with Special Warefare, Training commands and New construction. What a wonderful eye opening experience. Whewn I was at sea, I loved nothing better than to have a cup of coffee and just look out at the horizon. R...Expand for more
ough seas were my favorite time out on the pond!
Being a plankowner was the second greatest adventure I had in the Nav. but is the thing I am most proud of, (SPECWAR was #1). Loved the fact that we all got along so well. Boston during commisioning was a blast, China town was reckless with Steve and Pat. CE division was a great group of guys who taught me alot. I admired the tightness of WA. Engineering rocked too. Hope we get a reunion going one day of just the original crew. Now that I am retired...it's you guys I miss the most.
Update: 4/24/2013
I no longer live in Suffolk. I am now living a few block from the Chesapeake Bay in Virginia Beach. When I first joined classmates, I wasn't on FaceBook. Hadn't even heard of it! Was on FB for a couple of years and talk about a BLAST FROM THE PAST!!!!! Remember up in my first paragraph I said I only planned on staying in the Navy for 6 years then comming home and marrying a local girl?!?!
Well THAT local girl contacted me thru FB one nite and EVERYTHING changed, just like that. Jennifer, my neighbor accross the street on Glen Echo sent me a private message. After nearly 35 years of not hearing from her "POOF" she was back in my life. And, well, the rest is history. We are engaged and will marry some where around Gladstone once her privagte business with her ex is straightened out. She and I are such a good match. We always were, she was just a bit too young for me, or was it the other way around, way back then. For those of you who have been attending the Annual Multi-Class reunion at High Rocks Pub, well we will be seeing you there this comming Aug. and probabley every year there after till I croak ;)
Life is good!,

Jennifer and I were married April 11, 2015 as most of you on Facebook already know. This July we will attend our second Multi class reunion at High Rocks Pub and look forward to rekindling old friendships from Gladstone.
