Jim's Story
Life
Graduated Charlestown H.S. in June 1974. Entered U.S. Air Force in November 1974. Served in Turkey, Italy and finished my 4 year enlistment at NSA in Maryland. Met my wife at worship and we became engaged in August 1978. We married in Richmond, Va. in August 1979. I went to Virginia Commonwealth University and received my B.S. in Information Systems in December 1983. Worked at the Federal Reserve Bank, Life of Virginia and Heilig-Myers during our 11 years in Richmond. Our son Brian was born in Richmond in July 1988. Began full-time work as a Gospel Minister in late 1989 and moved to Columbus, Ohio. Our daughter Stephanie was born in April 1991. In August 1992 we moved to Petal, Mississippi to work with a small congregation. October of 1995 found me in Tula (South of Moscow) Russia for a month doing some Missionary work. Ohio to work with another congregation. 7 years later (June 2004) we moved to Mt. Pleasant, Tenn. to work with the Locust Street Church of Christ. We just celebrated (August 2004) our 25th Anniversary.
College
I graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University in December of 1983. I went to work immediately in January of 1984 for the Life Insurance Company of Virginia (GE Financial today - 2004]. Since I was working, I opted not to go to the graduation ceremonies in 1984. I treated my college years like a job. I went to school in the mornings and then to work at the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond in the afternoons. I actually spent as little time as possible at VCU, as I was married and lived on the southside of Richmond. There is some regret to this, but it was the best I could do at the time, going to school on the GI bill, and trying to maintain a healthy marriage and work schedule. Once I graduated from VCU, I had very little contact with any of my classmates.
