Jim's Story

I'm a little late in getting my life updated on classmates, but here goes. After graduation from Warren I went on to Long Beach State where I wrestled for 3 years, letting in 2 of them and placing in the coast championships in 1962 snd 1963. A back injury ended that chapter of my life. I graduated in 1965, about time to get drafted, but didn't pass the physical, so got lucky. I undertook graduate work toward a teaching credential, but when I was offered a teaching position I decided I was not prepared to be a full time high school teacher,, I felt I was too immature. Thus, my career went another direction.as a career government employee in the field of valuation, real estate at 1st and then into the securities and stock/corporation valuations. I got married in 1964 and after 53 1/2 years my wife passed away this year . We are hoping for one of those European trips on our 50th in 2014. but because she got ill we never made the trip. My wife was born in Germany and lived in England where she attended high school, so it would going down memory lane so to speak. She was an "Air Force brat" so moving around wasn't a big deal to her, it paid off once I got a position in government. we transferred a few times up and down the west coast. I had a couple of offers for positions in D.C. but said "thanks but no thanks".. .We have 3 children, a boy and 2 girls. My son has his MBA, loves golf and works in management for Pebble Beach Corp, so he's found nirvana. One of my daughters is a teacher with a Masters in Special Ed. My 2nd daughter is in the retail clothing industry. She is still single and enjoying her freedom as she says. I worked for the federal government for 36+ years, 5 for the Dept. of Defense, 2 for GSA and 29+ for the IRS as a supervisor, program manager and financial analyst.. We lived in the ...Expand for more
bay area for 2 years and moved back to Orange County and then to Portland, Or. I retired in 2002 and did some sub teaching at the local high school, which was quite a different experience from my 12 years teaching at Community Colleges, and decided I didn't have the patience for the high school classroom, but respect those who do. Presently as an Enrolled Agent, I now do consultant work in the tax and financial arena as well as mediation, Some being pro bono, for those who have some serious tax issues but lack funds to pay for my services, and a couple of Non-Profits in which for one I was the treasurer for 4 years. This is to return some of my good fortune when it is possible.. I'm also a licensed Real Estate Broker in Cal and OR, but have pretty much retired from the real estate industry a few years ago. My wife and I had traveled some, mostly cruises and to Alaska and Greece, Florida and Connecticut and of course Las Vegas, but not as much as I would have liked . Along the way I coached soft ball for my daughter's teams, baseball for my son and about 10 years of wrestling at the local high school adding up to about 25 years working in youth sports, It was a great experience and I would recommend it to anyone thinking about getting involved. My wife did her stint with the Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts as a leader. My wife and I had been blessed with, our children and 4 grandchildren.. So, life has been a good experience. I hope to be able to make it to the reunion in 2018 and revisit with some of my Warren Classmates. We presently live in Lake Oswego, OR which is about 10 miles from Portland. Hope I didn't bore you with this long revised epical , but being trained in the analyst industry, I have a hard time shortening anything I write, I apologize and wish all who happen to read this the very best.
