Jim's Story
Graduated early in Jan 1981. Skipped the Graduation ceremonies because I was out of school for so many months. Parents wanted to move to Florida and I stayed in Pittsburgh. Moved into an apartment in Baldwin and attended Penn Technical Institute for Electronics. Got a job at Westinghouse. Mom passed away in Feb '85 from Lung Cancer. Relocated to Florida in June of '85 with Martin Marietta, whom I did field engineering service work for a couple of years in California, Washington state, Quebec, and Zuerich Switzerland in '86. Met my wife in Zuerich got married in '87 in Steinebrun Switzerland in a real small medieval Chapel that held maybe 40 people. Returned from to Florida in '87. Had a girl in '90 and a boy in '93 (See photos for what they are doing now). In '95 moved back to Switzerland cold turkey, no job, just sold the house packed up and moved. Being adventurous! Got a job at an electronics contract manufacturer in the Boden See region of NE Switzerland. Lived in Neukirch Egnach / Amriswil for a few years. Had a great time there. Biking, Hiking, Skiing, Riding trains, lots of snow, cows, cheese, castles, really green grass and wild flowers. It is a outdoor paradise! In December '98 I got transferred back to the USA and landed in Southlake Texas where I started up a new facility for the Swiss company. Been in the Dallas Ft. Worth area ever since. Went back to night school in '04 for a BS BA and finished in Jan '07.
Life in Southlake Texas is a mix of The Stepford Wives and the Desperate Housewives and the Andy Griffith Show. Simple country to Lamborghini's. I am more the Andy Griffith type. s that you can make some good contacts. DFW has tons of music potential. Since I still play music and my daughter is now a singer song writer we are taking advantage of it. I play electric guitar with some long time friends at church (currently a Baptist church, before played at a UM church) while my daughter plays at the UM church and also does video and film and sound there. She plays at local establishments and is starting to take it to the next step since she just graduated high school in '09. I had coached baseball with my son from '99 until '06. He played select baseball at 2nd base. We traveled inside Texas for his tournaments. Go Fort Worth Drillers!!! Got a dirt bike in '05 and the interest starting changing. As of '09 he is racing the TSCEC circuit in the High Plains Division. He is doing well and has started placing in the top 5 just after 2 races. He is looking to be a full time racer and bike mechanic with his own shop one day.
As you can see the last few years have been devoted to the kids. My wife Hedi and I have been there to support them but when we get our time we go to places like Wyoming for the Grand Tetons, Colorado, Tennessee, Arkansas, and Florida. We like to hike mostly and enjoy the quiet nature after living in a concrete jungle of 8 million people in the DFW metroplex. My dad and brother still live in Florida and my sister had relocated to DFW a few years ago so we are not alone anymore.
Since it seems that we are on the start of a new chapter in our lives I am looking forward to the next 5 years! I can't wait to see what the new dawn brings, I sense something exciting is going to happen! Drop me a line and say hi! If your in the DFW area look me up I'm in the phone book! Jim
