Jim's Story

Life Hi all! Still hangin' in the Sun City, but it may not be long before we leave, who knows? I'm enjoying my 30's and 40's FAR more than my early years and being a dad and hubby is awesome. Thank God for middle age. It sure was fun waiting until now to have kids. Our first son, Jarrett is nearly 4. In fact, my "then" picture is of Jarrett, not me. You guys remember that big square rock in the hall next to the principal's office, the pregnancy stone? Well, my wife sat on that stone for a short while when we visited the school at the 2000 reunion and guess what?--- We conceived that night! Might just have to visit the school again shortly as we're trying for #2. I think we have another reunion this year, don't we? Well, count me out for that one. Too many other interesting things to do this time around..... like floss. You all have a safe and happy 2005! School Gawd, where do I start..... I had crushes on lots of girls but none would have anything to do with a dweeb like me (smart move). Guess I was a late bloomer. B.P. took a chance on me and we had a blast. We were just kids.... we didn't know what we were doing. I really didn't care for Austin High much.... sorry, but I just never fit in there. Would have been better suited for Burges because I had attended Ross Jr. High and all my friends went to Burges, but couldn't pull it off because of that stupid "gotta live in the district" thang. I met some quality folks at Austin and they're probably all still good people today, but not many that I'd call "friends". I keep in touch with a handful of them. The rest probably think of me as some sort of novelty, which is fine. I met some kick ass people so I'll name a few: Tina, Lee, Brinda, LyAnne, Joel, Charles, Sue, Kim, Coach Wills...etc...I really enjoyed sports, when I finally decided to participate and my best times in school were spent with my Choir pals. Good ol' Miss Aguilar, the choir director! If there were ever a student/teacher crush, it was that one. ......Expand for more
. anyhow, if it weren't for all of my extracurricular activities (away from school) I'd have probably gone mad. Special thanks go out to Mr. Chasen for screwing up all those fun hours I spent ditching class down at the Dairy Cup. For those of you that really know me, you'll recall I never spent much time in the spotlight at school -- didn't want any part of it.... Still don't. I enjoy making a difference, behind the scenes and living at my pace. Can't think of anything else to waste your time with so take it easy Panthers! Jim College UTEP Grad -- Creative Writing/Journalism Free-lance starving writer in my "spare" time. UTEP rocked. I had soooo much fun there! Spent my days getting decent grades (when I wasn't falling asleep from being out all night the night before) and my nights at Cheeks, making some serious chump change and learning a LOT about myself. For those of you who don't know what Cheeks was, ask any woman who went clubbing in the early '80's in EP. She'll tell ya. Played some beisbol, worked as an editor for the Rio Grande Review, but mostly spent my time gettin' wild with the boys at Kappa Sigma and the Zeta Girls. College rocked. High school was a bore. Workplace Been with Southern Pacific for many years now -- pushin' choochoos down the rails. Hope to live long enough to see all that retirement $ I'm socking away. Great career choice. Everything I needed to know about being an Engineer, I learned in pre-school. Eat,sit, stare straight ahead. That's it in a nutshell! Pretty impressive, huh? Un-like those of you who actually used your brains to make a living, the mentally challenged, like myself, were able to land good jobs that pay very well. Hey, I'm still writing, though. Gotta do something with my spare time other than making finger puppets out of stale doughnuts...... Military I would have been kicked out of the military -- no doubt -- simply because I march to the beat of my OWN DAMNED DRUM and I don't salute anyone. Period.
